I found this website about a month ago and wanted to share it:

All kinds of hedgie snacks...dried or live worms...freeze dried or canned crickets..etc...and they also sell Wodent Wheels...apparently the only wheels approved by the ASPCA. They also sell regular pellet feed mixed with dried worms which I thought was an excellent ( Read more... )

I hadn't heard that. Do you know why?

they apparently have injured themselves getting out of them quickly, they are made for rats who are more slender, and let's be honest, a little smarter and faster than our guys.
i don't know from experience, i read it on the hedgehog central foums...people on there have had problems with them.

Wodent Wheels

Some people choose to use Wodent Wheels for their hedgehogs. Wodent wheels feature a solid running surface, but contain a series of holes on the front of the wheel. If you hedgehog is larger it may or may not be able to fit through these holes. On most Wodent Wheels the holes are above the running surface of the cage allowing no place for feces or urine to run off. Hedgehogs also like to jump on and off their wheels mid run. With Wodent wheels the holes make it very hard for hedgehogs to jump on and off, and can cause serious injury or death.
Pros

* Solid Running Surface

Cons

* Feces and urine cannot drain off
* Holes may be to small
* Hedgehogs may try to jump out while moving and get caught on the wheel
* Front plate must come off to clean wheel. It is not easy to take front plate off or put it back on.

hmm. I wonder if this is outdated information, as the design of Wodent Wheels has changed?

you can ask, but the hedgehog forums are still insisting it's problematic, since it's actually made for rats specifically, and not hedgehogs. check around and read some reviews from people with hedgies i guess?

unfortunately a feel like a lot of reviews are skewed to get us to buy those cake walk wheels because they are made by some hedgie breeder, but you can't even get them anymore and they were crazy expensive anyway.
