1. At the moment, Hildy lives in a 30 gallon aquarium, which is not really big enough for her (in my opinion.) I'm moving soon, and will have plenty of room. I have intended to create some sort of open cage on the floor since she seems to like the 'run' I bought, but I've heard hedgies are good climbers. (She's never tried to get out of the run. 1.So... does anyone else have a setup other than a traditional cage? And do you have pictures?

Cages are a struggle. This is a before and after of my setup, which I'm quite proud of :-P

2. I'm interested in them too, I think one will be Hans's christmas present

3. Mealworms and other forms of bugs...Hans seems to like 8-in-1 brand Hedgehog treats (he eats certain parts of it)...small apple bits sometimes

4. Hans isn't litter-box trained. We put him in the smaller half of his cage and let him do his business before taking him out to play with him. Otherwise, you have to wash the wheel a lot. I recommend soaking it in hot, hot water with lots of dish soap and leaving it for awhile so you don't have to scrub the poo.

5. In the yahoo group I belong to a lot of people have multiple hedgies. Girl hedgies do best living together. Some people even neuter their males and toss 'em into the mix; I wouldn't recommend this for first-timers; a lot of the people on this list are hedgehog rescuers and end up with all kinds of hedgehogs. Most breeders won't sell you a girl and a boy for obvious reasons. Even with the best separation surprise pregnancies pop up. And I've heard that two males in the same cage will fight each other.

Ok. SOrry to post anonymously, I'm not part of livejournal anymore but I really like this community.
