Just got done a performance for my dojo at the Fall For Fairfax. It was cloudy and drizzling, but the stage was covered.

On my individual form I messed up one part pretty hardcore, but tiptoe39 assures me that she couldn't tell. I did my best to just roll with it all and look like I knew what I was doing. I got enough applause to give me the impression that I succeeded.

The other big thing was a sort of free-form sparring routine with one of the other brown belts, who is at least an order of magnitude better than I am. We did some freestyle, then when he hissed "one", he did a sweep that I jumped over and then landed into an uppercut. More freestyle, then I hissed "two", and then we launched into the second semi-choreographed event, more freestyle, then we did our finish, and people seemed to like it. I think that must be a little bit how WWE athletes feel. Sure, we went into it having a pretty good idea of what we were going to do beforehand, but we still had to fucking do it, and that was a workout. My partner was really bloody fast, and it took a lot of effort to keep up with him and make it look good.

At the end, the assistant instructor, who tiptoe39 will assure you looks and moves like the real-life samus aran, took me and two other students down to the applause of all.

The rest of the time, I handed out fliers in front of the booth and tiptoe39 got to be all liberal and hand out democratic fliers at the fairgrounds.

And of course, after we left, the sun came out. Natch.

All considered, great fun and I once again managed to acquit myself in a non-suck manner.

woot, martial arts
