Off and running

Barack Obama, standing on the steps of the Old State Capital in Springfield, Illinois, announced his official candidacy for the presidency of the United States this morning.

I, being on the west coast, missed the speech.

You can watch it online at Barack Obama's website or MSNBC (link on their front page), or you can wait until 5 pm PST/8 pm EST and turn on C-SPAN, when they will be reairing it.

I'll be watching only because my understanding is that the C-SPAN coverage gave more of a sense of the audience response than the online versions I've seen so far.

If you're keeping tabs on Democratic contenders for 2008, this is a don't miss speech. If you appreciate a good orator, this is a don't miss speech.

Also available is his 40 minute speech on the relationship between faith and politics that you can access through his website.
