Another fantastic act was the girl who worked with the two long sashes that hung from the ceiling. She pulled her self up, wrapped herself in them, did death spirals spinning in them and catching herself just at the end. Power and grace.

Was it like the scene from Tomb Raider 2 where Angelina Jolie does an anti-gravity ballet on two bungee cords, or are the sashes just basically ropes and not springy?

Non-springy. The nearest movie parallel would be the long sashes you see in recent Hong Kong movies like House of Flying Daggers.
