Relaxing on the couch, engrossed in novel about a tiny, African death cult, Hector barely registered Grim jump up into the couch beside him. Nor did he pay any mind to the two tentative paws resting against his thigh, or when the feline grew bolder and shifted onto his upper legs to leech his body heat, settling in and dozing off for a catnap as Hector flipped pages.
Half an hour later, Hector had finished his book, but Lacroix's cat still hadn't budged, curled in a tight ball, eyes closed and still blissfully asleep.
From here, Hector couldn't reach the television remote on the opposite side of the couch, couldn't move to fetch his cell phone out of his back pocket. He couldn't just sit here doing nothing, could he? His only option was to remove the furry creature from his lap. With gentle pressure, Hector pushed his palm against Grim's side... but was disappointed when the cat only curled up tighter in his ball, refusing to move from his current warm bed.
Hector was positively trapped, and with a sigh, he dropped his head to rest against the back of the couch. His eyes slipped shut with nothing to focus on, and before long, he found himself drifting away into a nap of his own.
