Sleeping Horizontally Again

Feb 24, 2011 20:16

Rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

I am back in the land of the long white internetz after a month or so of coughing up almost every internal organ the good gods saw fit to install above my navel. Bronchitis it wasn't - barely - but it was bad enough and never seemed to end.
Also, I had to sleep sitting at at ninety degree angle for more than three weeks so I wouldn't choke to death on my own lungs.
It's funny how the little things assume importance. Tonight will be the third night in a row that I will be sleeping horizontally and not taking 10mL of Robitussin Chesty Cough mix before bed. (Not missing the cough medicine. They SAY it's cherry vanilla flavour. THEY LIE.)
I purely cannot wait to go to bed and enjoy the lying down. It fucking roxxors.

Work has become so frantic that we had a serious discussion of how best to deal with our twin issues of being understaffed and overworked and the only suggestion we could come up with was sitting quietly in corners, rocking and crying. Needless to say that neither the rocking or the crying will be happening - unless things get significantly worse in which case we won't be answerable for our actions. Instead we are starting work at 5.45am tomorrow morning to get a good three hours without customers to process the three hundred odd enrolments still pending for this semester. The manager has offered to bring us pancakes which is, I feel, the least she can do.

I've developed an obsession with clothes over the last fortnight. I've been worrying about our finances since we are paying off a holiday for later this year and it was going to be a major stretch to get it paid by the final due date. Fortunately, the Universe listened when I said I needed more money and I've been put on full time at work as well as being offered paid overtime instead of time off in lieu. SO now we will be able to pay off the cruise (did I mention CRUISE!!!) as well as have a good bit of dosh left over. So I have done a major clean out of the my wardrobe and have planned the redesign of its content in military detail. Being plus size made it difficult for me to learn how to buy clothing when most girls did and it's only in the last few years - essentially since I began to earn enough to be able to shop at TS14 guilt free - that I've paid much attention to putting together a coherent wardrobe instead of just buying what fits. I've even invested in a good pair of boots that fit around my calves. Boots are traumatic. I want them. My calves are about half an inch too wide to fit them properly. HALF AN INCH. Bastard things. Boots, that is. My calves are one of the few parts of me that are properly toned and muscly so I rather like them.

Also - Mildura how has the trifecta of mosquito borne mayhem - Ross River Fever, Barmah Forest Virus and Murray Encephalitis. We got flooding in large portions of the town a few weeks ago when Yasi moved west and we copped the storms on the edge of the weather system. Cardross and parts of Irymple are still flooded. The Cardross Football oval is still so deeply flooded it's developing a wetland ecosystem (true) and the team is talking about merging with the neighbouring club so they will have a place to pay for the next year or so while the water drains. In short, lots and lots of mozzies bringing lethargy, fever, spots and brain swelling in their wake.

clothes, work, pancakes, boots, illness, mosquitos, mildura
