I didn't mean for this to be angsty so much as sub-plotty, but it was a little more sour than I remembered. The point was, I had to find something for Callie to do since I put her way over at Seattle Presbyterian. And I don't know why, but not telling her about Ian, seemed like something Erica would do. Maybe it was embarrassment, maybe she didn't think it was any of Callie's business, or maybe it was something that simply never crossed her mind or when it did, it really didn't register as important. I'm not sure yet, to be quite honest. I know what I had Erica say, but sometimes we're not truthful to our lovers, sometimes we're not even truthful to ourselves. Wow, even this comment is turning a touch angsty. Sorry about that.
Besides introing a subplot, this was more or less an exercise in showing a real kind of relationship interaction. I didn't want them to be all lovey-dovey 100% of the time, because that's not realistic. They're two very different people and that adjustment from being friends to being lovers isn't always a seamless transition. There are certainly different expectations on a lover than a friend. It gets complicated when deeper feelings and greater expectations become involved.
I think that's Erica's greatest fear, being made to look foolish or incompetent, being laughed at by the medical establishment. Well, that and failure, but that's a whole different animal.
Yeah, that last sentence was a bit dramatic. What other secrets might be revealed about our enigmatic Chief Hahn? I guess you're just gonna have to keep reading, assuming I ever get around to posting more of this.
I agree, Erica should have given her a heads up. That's a pretty shitty, mortifying way to find out and Callie's handling it pretty well, but I think something like that is like a thorn in the paw, it doesn't really hurt until you poke at it. She hasn't had a lot of time to poke at it yet. Hm, I sense encroaching angst.
HA! Callie lover. *singing* H4H is a Callie lover! :p
I'm happy you liked it. When I first posted it, I wasn't certain there was enough going on here to hold a reader's interest. It's nice to hear that there was. Thanks for the awesome comments.
