Campaign Speech
Every now and then I have a random thought and then think "Hmmm... that would certainly make a decent campaign speech." (The consummate politician, I know...) Anyway, I know it's nothing new or exciting to observe this, but conservatives today seek to conserve the classical liberalism of the Founders and the early pioneers -- maintaining their values while trying new programs and systems to improve their communities and the world. Today, "liberals" want either to preserve the status quo when it comes to programs, or increase spending while they want to tear down every moral institution. Conservatives want to preserve and rebuild the morality of the nation while trying new programs (school choice, tax credits, workfare, etc.).
