I'm safe.
At least two people were killed and 24 others wounded Tuesday evening when a suicide bomber blew himself up at the Hasharon mall at the entrance to the coastal town of Netanya.
Six people were seriously wounded in the attack, and 18 others sustained light injuries. The wounded were taken to Laniado Hospital in Netanya, Meir Hospital in Kfar Sava and Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera. Today I visited the
holy gravesite of Rachel, the wife of Yaakov (Jacob) and one of our Matriarchs. Her grave is located in Beit LeChem (Bethlehem -- literally "House of Bread"), which is just on the other side of the much-maligned security fence. We drove there in a bulletproof bus. The holy site is now surrounded by a bunker to prevent terrorist attacks like this one. More specifically, it's to prevent terrorist attacks like the one that destroyed the tomb of Yosef (Joseph), Rachel's son who became the vizier of Egypt. A Jewish man saved the cover to Yosef's tomb and it is now in Rachel's tomb.

And this is how Israelis have come to live; grudgingly accepting security fences, metal detectors outside malls and restaurants and bus stations, and bulletproof buses and soldiers defending holy sites. But don't tell that to
The (UK) Sun:
The (UK) Sun has a roundup of Islamic terrorism 'across the world over the last decade' -- complete with map. Guess which Mideast country that has absorbed hundreds of attacks during this period does not appear in the Sun's account? ** UPDATE ** In apparent response to this HR critique, The Sun's page now includes this statement:
"We have not included the unforgivable Palestinian terror attacks and suicide bombings in Israel due to their sheer number."
Riiiiiiight. I'm sure that's why...
But while we're talking about terrorism, why do the terrorists hate us?
Christopher Hitchens counts the ways:
We know very well what the "grievances" of the jihadists are. The grievance of seeing unveiled women. The grievance of the existence, not of the State of Israel, but of the Jewish people. The grievance of the heresy of democracy, which impedes the imposition of sharia law. The grievance of a work of fiction written by an Indian living in London. The grievance of the existence of black African Muslim farmers, who won't abandon lands in Darfur. The grievance of the existence of homosexuals. The grievance of music, and of most representational art. The grievance of the existence of Hinduism. The grievance of East Timor's liberation from Indonesian rule. All of these have been proclaimed as a licence to kill infidels or apostates, or anyone who just gets in the way.
