Tonight's HIMYM = A-!
1. "Bagpiping" makes me laugh forever and I will begin to use it.
2. Barney's blatant sexism irritates me, but it also is being presented as "this is a guy who is very over the top and clearly wrong," so that makes it kind of better? And the fact that it's gaygaygay NPH makes it moderately ironic.
3. Ted's ageist comment about laughing at racist jokes told by old people made me cringe inside. First because it was blatantly ageist, and second because despite its blatant ageism, I found it amusing.
So on the whole, it was kind of social-issue-failtastic, but no more so than it usually is. (It's a show about five New Yorkers who are all straight, white, cis, currently-abled, and college-educated? The only immigrant is Canadian and can therefore pass as a citizen on a day-to-day basis, since she's white and has no discernible accent? There are never any black people except Barney's gay brother, ever? Now that I write this out, maybe I ought to address this at some point.) And the plotline was one of the better ones we've seen this season. Also, bagpiping. So I guess I give it an A- with the understanding that in comparison to other shows, it's never actually going to do better than a C+.
