Where do missing things hide?

I'm a person who extremely rarely loses items. Keeping that in mind, I am now missing a stapler, a hole puncher and the warranty receipt for my washing machine. I've looked EVERYWHERE for these but can't find them. I can understand that perhaps I've accidentally thrown the warranty receipt away considering that it's just a piece of paper and hence easily misplaced BUT a) it's A5 size and blue and b) the only way it would've ended up in the trash is that if it had been on the kitchen table but I could SWEAR I last saw it on my bedroom desk drawer (it's not there anymore though, I've checked about 30 times...). The stapler and hole puncher are a different story though since they are rather large in size (in comparison to a piece of paper, anyway). Anyone got any ideas where these things could be hiding because I am truly at loss here?

Also, the lift in my building has broken down (luckily no one apparently was inside it at the time) and because most of the people living in my building are like 70+ years old I called the lift company help line to tell them that the lift is not working. They tell me that they are not allowed to come to fix it the same day because the maintenance company that looks after the building I live in has restricted this and the only way they will come and fix it the same day is that if the maintenance company calls them about it. Wtf? Elderly people in a four floor building + no lift = not a good idea.
