OK. Anyone in Nashville have any experience with speeding tickets, especially in Belle Meade? Apparently Belle Meade is it's own town despite Nashville being in it's address. Anyways, I just got a ticket for supposedly going 45 in a 30. The cop was a bit rude and was not believeing that I didn't hear a siren, because my stereo was playing. I pulled over as soon as I saw lights and found a place to pull off the road. I have a perfect driving record, esp in TN where I haven't had any ticket the entire 4 years I've been here. If I really was speeding, which I remember I was coasting, not even accellerating. Why bother me with something so rediculous? I think my fault was driving through an elitist neighborhood at the indecent time of 12:15 AM, shock horror, in an 8 year old car.
My point is, this ticket is $93, AND my insurance will undoubtedly go up. It says if I show up to court, and am found guilty, I also have to pay litigation taxes, however much that may be.
My question is:
Is it true that most of the time the cops don't show up in court to argue their case, and consequently if you show up and the cop doesn't, they just throw it out? Most people fear speaking in public/court and just send in a check. I may have been speeding, but I was just cruising and probably downhill, and the speed limits change anywhere from 25-40 mph all down Harding in that neighborhood, so I just noticed. I thought it was all 40. If it's all down to him vs. me, then why should anyone go to court if his word says that he caught me on radar at the coincidentally rounded off number of 45 mph (44, or 46, might have been more believable). Is it worth it?
This just really seems rediculous and a way to drum up money to support their city govt and the notion that Belle Meade is independent. How was I endangering anyone? Shouldn't they be looking for criminals? I hate the idea of traffic cops. I completely believe the urban legend that they have ticket quotas to meet to prove they are doing something.
