[ She doesn't recognize these streets. Ange has been in fairly different sorts of places with her investigation back home, from upper-class neighborhoods to backalleys, but yet she doesn't recognize this specific place. Not to mention that it's raining and the wind is tugging on her and--

That's when she notices someone who does look familiar running there, even if the look on her face isn't quite what Ange expected her to see. But with these unfamiliar surroundings Chie is right now the only thing she can hold on to as a familiar point, and so she calls out, running over to her. ]

[a voice, calling her name - chie glances over and sees ange, and the intense feeling of panic redoubles.]

Ange-san?

[chie skids to a halt and stands, waiting, in the rain. she can't let ange see souji. she can't let souji see ange. he'll kill her, and she's already died once at adachi's hand, because chie failed to protect her. she can't let it happen again.]

Ange-san, we have to go, now. It isn't safe! [the blood splattered on her clothing should be a glaring indication, at least.]

[ She doesn't notice the blood until now, and while the blood itself doesn't faze Ange - she has seen enough of that in her life by now already - there's enough off about it to trust Chie's words on this one, so she gives a slight nod. ]

Alright-- [ She doesn't even get half of what is going on, really. There's something wrong with Souji? Where are they even, to start with? And why can't he find them.. ]

Let's hurry then!

[ And she does start to run with Chie, even if she looks somewhat confused. But she trusts the girl's judgement. ]

... What's going on with him, though?

[no time for anything more detailed than that. chie directs ange to follow her up the hill, toward the shrine. it's not far - they can hide there.]

[ Oh, Ange gets the fact that there's no more time to explain than just a simple sentence or two, but still the words make no sense to her. The situation itself is already strange enough, but.. Souji, a monster? Killing them?

Even for a situation like this that seems unbelievable. But she'll run for now if Chie wants her to. She pants just slightly as they run up the hill. ]

Why-- Souji wouldn't! [ She manages to get that out inbetween catching her breath as she runs. ]

I don't know what happened to him, he just -

[he just went crazy and started eating things that ought not be eaten. like, more so than usual.]

Something's wrong with him.

[it doesn't take long for them to make the dash to the shrine. the area definitely looks like it's seen better days. but no need to focus on that now, right? they're running for their lives. chie directs ange to follow her into hiding behind the haiden.]

Over here! [she crouches to the ground, just barely peeking around the corner to keep an eye out for souji.]

[ Ange crouches down as well, next to Chie while the other girl keeps guard. She trusts Chie enough to follow her in a situation like this, even if the story is a little ridiculous.. And besides, she has no clue where else to go in a place like this. Her breath is somewhat baited. ]

Do you think he'd follow us here?

I ... I don't know. [she wouldn't have thought souji was inclined to gnaw on a severed head, either. she's basically out of her element now, waiting, heart pounding, soaked by the rain.]

Yeah.. This whole situation is pretty strange, if you ask me.

[ Finally vocalizing that thought, at least. She frowns a little though as she seems to be thinking about it more as they wait. ]

If he'd show up here though.. [ She doesn't say the rest, but the question is fairly obvious -- what would or could they do? ]

Shh! [chie quickly ducks her head behind the structure, signaling the other girl to be quiet, while mouthing words to her: HE'S HERE. Sure enough, there's the sound of approaching footsteps, and something being dragged along in the dirt.]

[ And that's enough to actually make Ange shut up though, she's not dumb enough to not realise what the other girl is hinting at. And when the sound of footsteps resound, she holds her breath as well for a moment. Did something really happen to Souji like Chie said? She's sort of curious, but she doesn't want to risk going to look.

Instead she glances over to the girl - almost a bit nervously under the deadpan now - hoping for any other sign of what's going on. ]

[chie squeezes her eyes shut, holds her breath, tries to ignore the sound of her own heart pounding as she listens to the footsteps. they approach partway, halt for a moment that seems to stretch out forever, and then finally recede. chie waits another moment or two after she's certain the footsteps are gone, then loudly exhales a relieved sigh.]

I think he's gone. [she blinks her eyes open again and peers around the corner to check. no sign of anyone, so she pulls herself to her feet, offering a hand to help ange up.] If we head back the other direction, we can get to the police station, and -

[she glances back over her shoulder, and shrieks. souji's standing right there, silent, eyes flashing yellow, a crazed grin slung across his face.]

Did you really think you could fool me so easily? [a branch of lightning crackles overhead, followed by a loud clap of thunder, and chie shrieks again.]

[ Ange doesn't even hear Chie's words. Or at the very least they don't register as she spots Souji behind Chie before she even has the chance to stand up. The sight of him like that is enough to root her to her spot on the ground as she just stares with wide eyes. Those yellow eyes.. Like a Shadow? And to see a grin like that on his face, and the lightning..

She can't help but gasp too. ]

Souji..? [ Her voice sounds a little as if she can't believe it even though it's in front of her. She knows they have to get away, and yet she can't force herself up. ]

You just had to come back, didn't you? [souji leers at ange, taking a sauntering step forward and positioning the bloody end of his giant sword dangerously near the girl's throat. chie looks on in frozen horror.] Couldn't just stay down, huh?
