Every year seniors write their goodbyes to the school they’ve known for four years. Some experiences are bad, some are good. My four years at East Jackson have been a roller coaster ride. I’ve had ups and downs, but I have survived through all of them.
To my friends: If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times; I can’t thank you all enough. Krissy-ten, Manda-pants, Rande, Lindz, Kasey, Courtney, Breanna, Emily, Angie, (and everyone else I forgot), senior year has been my best year of high school yet, all because of you guys. It’s sad to think we all only got together at the end of last year, and it’s almost over already. But we’ve had a great run. From the invincibility in the beginning, to sucking helium at my birthday party, to the movies and hangouts. To afternoons at Rudy’s drive-in, the hundreds of jokes we’ve made over the past eight months, to everything else in between. And I owe you all for the calories I’ve lost laughing. We’ve outlasted the drama, and enjoyed the good times. The drama especially. You’ve all helped me to check my temper when something really gets to me, and I can’t thank you enough. I never though I would miss anything from high school, but I sure will miss you guys. As cliché as all of this sounds, I know I’ve made friends for life. Don’t forget it, any of you.
To my teachers: All of you, from kindergarten to my senior year, thank you for believing in me. You believed I could achieve, even when I didn’t. Thank you for pushing me against my natural laziness and procrastination. And thank all of you for inspiring my imagination and giving me knowledge to quell my thirst for learning. My parents used to say my brain was like a sponge, soaking up everything I heard. You defiantly gave it enough to keep my brain occupied. I do have to say a big kudos to my math teachers. You’ve all had immense patience with me, because I HATE math. It’s been like pulling teeth since elementary school. Thank you so much. To my English teachers, you’ve made my love of literature and writing stronger and stronger every year.
Because of my teachers, I have a good base to go into college. Even though I’ve been looking forward to going to college for about seven years, I cherish everything each of you has taught me.
And finally, my fellow graduates. Finally, all our hard work is coming to an end. For another overused statement: we’ve made it. It’s been quite a run. I wish every one of you success in everything you aspire to do. We can achieve anything and everything we want, simply by power of will. And there is a lot of will power in this class. I hope at our ten-year reunion we’ll all have some great stories to tell.
To the rest of the student body, I offer these simple words. Don’t let anyone tell you who to be, how to live your life, or what to think. Keep your individuality, it’s the greatest gift you have. Be unique, and go against the grain; being different makes everything more interesting. And don’t be afraid to let your true self shine through. There is always someone who will respect your opinions. Live life with love and love life with a passion. Take time to go outside and admire the beauty of everything around you, and find something to be thankful for every day.
Bright Blessings to all of you.
