[ Canon Point ] : After the end of his Storyline in Samurai Warriors 3

[ History ] :
Ishida Mitsunari was a samurai born in the Omi Province of Japan. He was an intelligent man that was sought out and added to the Toyotomi ranks due to his cultural acuteness and cunning. In time he would become the Chief Adviser to Lord Hideyoshi himself, but that came later. On the battle field, his usual task was to secure supply lines, but a man with such great ambition could never just be confined to just that.

The first battle of his campaign in the game is The Battle of Shizigatake. We first find our hero riding to battle with two soon-to-be -friends Fukushima Masanori and Kato Kiyomasa. At this point, it does not seem that the three of them are fond of each other, only outdoing each other in the eyes of their lord. With words like "fool" being thrown to one another, they go into battle with the intentions of showing their lord which ones of them would come out to be important to him in the future. While their hopes were all high, Hideyoshi valued all three as if they were his children and after the battle was won due to all of their combined efforts, he naked Kiyomasa and Masanori as apart of his Seven Spears of Shizugatake and Mitsunari became one of his Five Commanders. Mitsunari was honored by such a position, but his true desire was only to do whatever it took to make his lords dreams a reality.

The second battle was against Tokugawa Ieyasu at Komaki-Nagakute. In Hideyoshi's efforts to unify Japan, Ieyasu decided to rise against him with the support and intentions of using the former Lord Oda Nobunaga's son and heir: Nobukatsu. This was the action that began nursing the embers of hated Mitsunari holds for Ieyasu evermore, but that tale is for another day. For this battle, Hideyoshi employed the aid of the Ronin Sakon Shima. Mitsunari, Masanori and Kiyomasa still must work closely together in this battle and still their friendship still has a few visible wrinkles that need to be ironed out, but they at least seem to enjoy each others company. The term 'fool' at this point even seems to be more of an affectionate term. Sakon himself couldn't even resist poking fun at all three, calling Kiyomasa 'a fool', Mitsunari 'a bigger fool' and Masanori 'a fool beyond all hope'. With one more cry of "For the sake of our glorious future!", they due battle with Tokugawa and his followers.

Hideyoshi himself is not very impressed with the fact they had to fight this battle, but since Nobukatsu did side with Ieyasu and Ieyasu decided to fight in honor of their former Lord Nobunaga, this battle had to be done so that his dream could be realized. Mitsunari knew this and fought in for his Lord and so that he may realize his dream. The battle was won with the help of the Ronin Sakon in favor of the Toyotomi. Ieyasu's ambition was snuffed out for the time being and his loyalty pledged to Hideyoshi alone. This did not stop Mitsunari's dislike of Ieyasu for trying, however.

At this point, most of Japan was under the control of the Toyotomi. The next battle was against The Hojo clan at Oshi castle. Sakon reminded Mitsunari that he did not need to win the battle for Hideyoshi's dream to be realized seeing it basically already was, Mitsunari knew he had to regardless. He was anxious and wishing to live up to fulfilling Hideyoshi's dreams entirely. That was not his significant reason however. What he wanted the most was for his friends and his lord to return home together, a home where they all belong. That was the future that was most important to him, but this was a wish that he would only share with Sakon.

The battle was going fine with the Toyotomi having the upper-hand, that is until Lady Kai sprung forth her plan and placed half of the battlefield under water suddenly. The upper-hand of the battle was no longer Mitsunari, which greatly aggravated him. It was when his good friend Naoe Kanetsugu, reminded him that he and their friend and ally Sanada Yukimura all have the same dreams and desires as he does. Being reminded of this and having the aid of all of his loyal friends held turn the tide of battle back in their favor, giving them the victory over the Hojo and all at Oshi castle that still had ideas of going against Lord Hideyoshi. At the close of this battle, Mitsunari asked Sakon to stop wandering and formally work for him and no other from then on, Sakon, of course, accepted.

The land was belonged to them and everything was peaceful and nice. These days did not last, however, as Lord Hideyoshi passed away and left the fate of Japan to his followers. Ieyasu once again rose, saying that he was the one who should inherit The Toyotomi. Mitsunari in no way agreed with this act and thus the grouping of battles of the Western Army (under Ieyasu's control) against the Eastern Army (under Mitsunari's control) began.

Kiyomasa and Masanori saw no use in fighting Ieyasu. It was Kiyomasa was Mitsunari took this up with, pleading and trying to being him to his senses for the better of their house. He was convinced they had to fight Ieyasu in order to protect their house and that he wanted them to help him. Kiyomasa utterly refused, believing that the only way to protect their house is to not go against Ieyasu, but to aid him. It ended with Kiyomasa riding off to join Ieyasu's army and Mitsunari left to defend their Lord's wishes the only way he knew how, standing and fighting, even if it was against his own friends.

The first of the two battles against the Western Army was the Battle of Kuzegawa. In the beginning, Sakon's shares with Mitsunari his thought of of they get rid of Ieyasu's right hand man Tadakatsu Honda, taking down Ieyasu himself would be easy. Mitsunari himself agreed, but expanded upon the plan. He wanted to kill all of the people who would dare side with Ieyasu and his ideals. Ginchiyo Tachibana and Motochika Chosokabe. To Mitsunari, Motochika's arrogance and pride reminded him a bit of Kiyomasa and Ginchiyo and her headstrong ways reminded him of Masanori. It was at least enough to pick up his mood enough to push him through the rest of his plans and finally defeat Tadakatsu Honda and win. By achieving victory, Mitsunari received the confidence he needed to finally make the last march against Ieyasu.

The last battle was at Sekigahara. This was the battle that decided everything: If Hideyoshi's dreams would be protected or smeared dishonorably in the dirt. This time, those friends he had made would be standing on the other side of the battlefield. Keeping this in mind, he was set on pursuing this road and becoming victorious.

Masanori had to be taken care of first. The trouble came when Kiyomasa made his way out onto the battlefield. His battle prowess was raising the morale of the Western Army. It became clear that Mitsunari could not avoid fighting him and went into battle with him where he won. Once Kiyomasa fell, Mitsunari fell to his knees, distraught and scrambling to cradle his former friend in his arms. His friend fought to hold on and give him one more message, one he wished to tell him even before he left, but could only get out "With you, I am..." before he died. There was no time to mourn his fallen friend, as he left him behind and marched on to defeat Ieyasu and win the war.

After it was all said and done, Mitsunari found himself riding along with Sakon. Seeing that there was something wrong with him, he inquired. Mitsunari commented that he was proud of what he created, but the road was just far too quiet and barren- That maybe what he did wasn't the correct path. That was when he saw a figment of Kiyomasa riding past him and into the sun. This actually earned a smile from him, Mitsunari pointing his fan at the son and declaring to Sakon, "Listen up, you fool. I will follow this path without wavering to the very end".
Pleased, he could go on without any regrets.

[ Personality ] :
At first it seems that Mitsunari is just a cold man that is short, blunt and to the point with his words. He sees no reason to spare anyone his point of view or opinion in a situation. If you annoy him, it's very easy to tell. Because of things like this, it's not easy for him to make friends. Most of the time people see him as evil, cold or just plain unfriendly. Mitsunari himself doesn't really care what most people people think. Anyone who has not proven their worth to be his friend and ally is beneath him and of little consequence to him, that is, unless you are Ieyasu, but that is a deep seeded hatred for a different Mitsunari.

On the battlefield, Mitsunari is completely ruthless. He spares no one from the blade of his fan. Everything he does is to further the name of the Toyotomi. In the case of him being fairly upset and frustrated while a battle is going on, he will not restrain himself from deciding and carrying out the execution of the entire other army. Nothing will ever keep him from his goal as long as he can help it. This intelligence and confidence takes him far, but it's his poor way of gaining the favor of people that usually end up doing him in.

Because he is one of the Five commander's, he is very use to being in charge or having control of a lot of people. Even with this, he is level-headed and never lets it take him over. It's not impossible for him to get along with people outside of his circle, it just takes a lot more work than usual. No one that does not acknowledge Hideyoshi as the appropriate Lord of Japan would have a very hard time breaking his shell to get to the nice and caring Mitsunari inside. It might be even more iffy for someone who doesn't know Hideyoshi at all as he might see it as needless rebellious behavior.

With that said, all of his actual friends or the people he consider allies are few. When not in battle, however, it's often that his thoughts will be on the people closest to him. He does like having people close to him and being able to smile and feel comfortable with others he can connect with. While it's not easy for him to consider you a friend in the first place, once he is your friend there will be no one better to have guarding your back. Mitsunari is a loyal person who cares deeply about his friends and loved ones. This doesn't mean that he'll spare you his sharp tongue, but it does mean that he will at least be a little nicer about it than usual. In his heart, no friend or important person could ever be replaced. Even after he has lost you, will he keep the memory of the relationship alive.

In the end I suppose the best way to describe Mitsunari is a Loyal Tsundere. He is much like the winds he can control; He can be strong, cold and unfeeling at one time and then gentle and refreshing for the next.

[ Strengths/ Weaknesses ] :
Mitsunari's strength is in his loyalty and abilities as an adviser and commander. Oddly, he quite versed in the art of bombs. In the game one attack of his allows him to lay down multiple bombs that are either on a timer or can be remotely detonated by him himself. He's very passionate and true to his feelings, which brings people to trust him easily. Focused and an excellent strategist, he is perfect as a right-hand man. Pride? He has it to be sure, but it's never excessive or getting in the way of anything.

What he's only not so great with is how to handle people outside of politics. As a strategist, he is not the best fighter out of the field, but he is the smartest. However, his loyalty causes him to be blinded by many of the things that happen. He also has an inability to conform to change and accept it as something that must be. He is just one of those people who is stubbornly set and loyal to their ways. He's not without a temper as well; Mitsunari will take a good deal before he does lash out, but it's not the best idea to try his will. Sometimes all it takes is a little provocation to get him pissed off, and then heaven help the object of his wrath.

[ Other Important Facts ] :
ɸ As one of the Go-Bugyou (Five Commanders), his job was to govern over the police and be in charge of the area of Sakai near Osaka.

ɸ His Musou attack is a chain of attacks with his fan that end with a circle of explosives around him that he detonates and destroys his enemies with.

ɸ Mitsunari's element is the wind. Some of his attacks have to do with weapon of choice, a fan, zipping around him on said wind in a controlled manner.

ɸ His attitude and the fact his headdress somewhat looks like fox ears on his head has earned him "The Fox of Mt. Sawa"

ɸ That battle in his history? The one in Sekigahara? Yeah, historically the real Mitsunari lost that battle due to a betrayal and died shortly afterward. On this same note, He also lost that battle to Lady Kai at Oshi Castle historically.

[ Sample ] :
The sight he was greeted with unsettled him. First it was the 'sky' of water. How could such a thing be? Carefully he stood up and looked at the dome as if it was going to stop holding the water and it would all crash down on him. Slowly after a second and it was still holding, he acknowledged the architecture of the dome and how it was protecting all within it from what was outside of it. It was still perfectly impossible, but now he had more confidence to look around.

Finally looking around him, the city was unlike any city he had ever seen before. Was he transported to strange country? For what reason would they need a person like him, he could only wonder to himself. A fairly displeased look made it's way to his face, the man taking out his fan and placing his free hand over it. He knew not who took him there or what they mean to do with him, but by the honor of Lord Hideyoshi he would not let them have him if they tried to attack him.

It wasn't until many minutes later that he starting fingering the collar of his uniform. During the unsaid time, he had spent it being mystified at the things around him and how different things were there over being in Osaka. By fingering his collarbone, he found the odd design spot on his skin. He felt lucky that his clothing hid it, but he was still not very pleased with it. His head leaned to the side, his eyes closing while his lips pulled tightly in mild anger. Now his skin's been defiled? Whoever dared to do this to him was going to pay with their life.

For now, however, Mitsunari had come to the conclusion Sakon was not there and thus started to set off on his own to find more information about his situation.
