"Last year, I went on stage twice as a support member for LAZY, but, um, of course, how should I put this; that event wasn't the first time that I was active with them, it was actually when Higuchi-san was still in the hospital and they had asked me to take over for him during their one-man show in Osaka; but at the time, none of us were thinking that I would be taking Higuchi-san's place at all; but of course I was uneasy even at hearing the notion that I was "taking over" for him, something like that. But, the other members were very kind to me and gave me a warm welcome, so I was able to really have a lot of fun doing that event thanks to them. Of course, knowing that this was an event that was done every single year, and that Higuchi-san had his own things going on but that also it was an important time for the fans, I took my place as a support drummer thinking that if there was something I could do to help him, I certainly wanted to.
It's been about ten years ago now, but when I first arrived in Tokyo, I got to be friends with him [Higuchi-san], and we would be going around drinking pretty much every night; the times when he helped me with my drumming or something like that was actually quite rare, but I suppose before that as far as drumming was concerned, I remember being very happy that he had mentioned me at some point in an interview. He was kind enough to look upon me as sort of a lowerclassman, and really watch over me at that time; of course, since meeting Higuchi-san, my reasons and methods for drumming changed, but I am extremely grateful to him. And so, um, two years ago when I heard that he had been admitted to the hospital, it was a huge shock to me, but, if I can keep doing these events, I think people will come to see me every year if for nothing else than I'm just another middle-aged guy who really loves Higuchi-san in the same way that the fans do. And so, I really think that I would like to see us come together even more as younger musicians that were brought up under his influence."
