Canon Resources

demitour here, making a collection of prominent Kurando-related scenes in Shadow Hearts: Covenant. Most canon information found on the Internet is sparse in details or hard to come by. While this post is primarily intended to be a reference for my application at amatomnes, feel free to use any information gathered here for yourself!

On this post you'll find select video clips (skipped ahead to the desired scene for your convenience), or a sequence of screencaps if a particular scene is text-only and relatively short. Screencaps are given rather than just transcribing text to show that no dialogue has been tampered with. If you'd like to see my notes (inferences and tiny details, not intended for amatomnes reference), please refer to this other, less useful post over here.

A complete playthrough of Shadow Hearts: Covenant can be found here, courtesy of flashfaberge, who put the playlist together from YouTube user 7503. It's a long RPG, man. As far as I'm aware, a text file for the game script has never been made. What a pain.

After a short narrative depicting the current situation in World War I (1915), Kurando is introduced in the beginning of Disc 2 and is the final person to join the main party. He's first seen by Blanca, fighting a group of Japanese soldiers chasing after him, his master, and his master's daughter. (until end of the video)
Kurando's initial profile, accessible through the main menu:
"This brave young swordsman trails his master and his master's daughter like a shadow and is always there to protect them with his life."

Later on in the game, his profile changes:
"His innocent appearance belies his abilities as one of the finest swordsmen in the world. Like Yuri, he also has the ability to morph into monsters."

The following morning, the rest of the party gets to meet Kurando on the streets of Yokohama. (stop at 09:43)

With Yuri and the Gang tagging along because of Blanca, they and Kurando sneak on board the Battleship Mikasa in order to rescue the kidnapped Yoshiko. Many soldiers and automated weaponry were beat down in the process. (stop at 06:08)

The captain of the Mikasa took the group as prisoners for breaking on board. Kurando and Yoshiko were released quickly, but the rest of the group had some wait. (stop at 05:43)

All together now, the group follows Naniwa to visit a special gravesite. (stop at 03:55)

Falling into Garan's trap, Kurando becomes separated from Naniwa and Yoshiko. His body is possessed by Tsukiyomi and turns on the rest of the party as a boss battle. (stop at 05:35, then skip to 09:43)

Arriving in his hometown, Kurando is told his mother, Saki, is waiting at the Fountain of Sukune, a holy area she spends a lot of time in. Our young swordsman is taken aback by Anastasia's expressed devotion. (stop at 08:25)

A rare display of discontent happens when Joachim uproots an important village artifact and uses it as his own bludgeoning weapon. (stop at 04:16)

Using the Fountain of Sukune, Saki tracks down the location of the group's enemy. The demon god Astaroth, aware of her spying, possesses Saki, then forces her to transform and turn on the party as a brutal boss fight. (until end)

After recovering from the fight, Saki speaks with the party. Kurando seems to be a little embarrassed by his mother's eccentricities. It is also discovered that she is the sister of Yuri's father, making him and Kurando cousins. (just a joke)

Some further exposition explains the background of Yuri and Kurando's families. (some cousin bonding)

Some evil energy's been swirling up from an altar in the Neam Ruins. Anastasia takes charge and says she'll get rid of the monster, but as soon as she suggests going alone, Kurando won't have any of that. (stop at 07:49)

While making their way through the Neam Ruins, the group stumbles upon something precious their friend Roger lost. (do not want) (returning the "book")

After defeating the great demon Orobas, Anastasia shows him who's boss and tops that motherfucker. You don't mess with Russian princesses. Kurando has his cousin's sympathy. (a handful to deal with)

Returning to Inugami Village, Saki tells Kurando she's been having bad premonitions about the Dog Shrine. (stop at 08:31)

Turns out an old enemy was the source of the ill omen. After Kurando obtains his best weapon in the game: BOSS FIGHT! (given one chance)

All is now well. Anastasia continues to fangirl, Kurando still isn't scared off. (cool weapon bro)

The group returns to let Saki know how everything went. (yay Mumeiro) (growing up)

In order to obtain his final fusion form, Kurando must fight and defeat his mother. (going it solo) (until end) (emerging victorious)

After resurrecting Jutendouji, Anastasia can talk to Saki inside her house. A forced engagement ensues! (stop at 06:01)

When the final boss is defeated, the party is told that the only way they can leave the is to pray for the world they want to return to - the time they were the happiest. While everyone seemingly makes it out, they part ways due to whatever they prayed for. Kurando and Anastasia leave (and stay) together, most likely back to their present-1915. (still-frame during credits)
