Thunder
The rain beat against the roof and the double glazed window panes like the pitter-patter of little feet, clad in size 3 and a half soccer cleats, running down a wooden hallway.
Bang. Boom. Crash. Lightening flash. Silence.
Bang. Boom. Crash.
Lightening flash.
The pitter-patter of little feet in size 3 and a half slippers running down a wooden hallway sounded like rain beating against a roof and double glazed window panes.
Bang. The door flew open. I jumped up.
Boom, crash, lightening flash; a little boy in pajamas standing in the doorway, his feet clad in size 3 and a half lion head slippers.
“Daddy, ‘s scary.” Bang, boom, crash, screech. The box springs sagged a little under the weight of a 5 year old soccer player, scrambling under the covers.
“Daddy!”
I lay back down and rolled over.
“No, kiddo, I’m monsters under the bed. Dada is thunder. Wake him up, okay?”
“But daddy!”
I shook Dada on the shoulder. “Hey, Dada, wake up, you’re Thunder and your son is terrified.”
Bleary green eyes glared at me as arms wrapped around a trembling body and size 3 and a half lion slippers went flying across the room.
Bang. Boom. Crash. Lightening flash.
“Bam, you’re a terrible father.”
Silence.
Crash.
Lightening flash.
Daddy’s head flying under the covers; a trembling five foot nine lump under the comforter.
“Look, kiddo, Daddy’s scared of thunder too.”
Bang, boom… three bodies shaking under the comforter - laughter.
