God, where to start,the beginning? always handy...
That opening paragraph was genius, you totally nailed how Ville felt and I was right there with him, set the tone for the whole thing. I went for dinner in America last year and the kid at our table made us pray before it. I thought I was going to burst into flames, swear to God.The way you conveyed just how uncomfortable he feels around people who seem so 'normal' ( I use that word carefully as hey, who's normal...no-one!) was really skilfully and tenderly done.I could have cried for him when he finds himself filled with inner anger at seeing Bam and realising what he didnt have when he was his age. I almost wigged a bit at that section as I SO know how it feels to be older and compare yourself to younger people and feel party angry and partly sad at how you were never quite like them and wished you had been. I could tell you more but perhaps an lj isnt appropriate for me to bleed all over?! :)
Now, your use of lyrics in this chapter was beyond compare. My absolute fave was 'I'm so afriad of life' , hands down best use of a line anytime, anyplace, anyhow. Effing marvellous.
God, then there was the humour with the priest line which managed to be both funny and desperately sad at the same time...aces. Oh! and the stuff about Americans not knowing where Finland is was sooooooo great. You really make me chuckle as I agree with everything you say!
Whole thing is so beautifully written, you have such a lovely light touch. You use such beautiful descriptive words and phrases and say so much in such a restrained, elegant style.

i have to pray every time we eat a meal as a family, or else my mom will freak out. like, i mean, i just say the words, cuz its been my job since i was 2. and... yeah. i dont like doing it, but i have to. you know? i like to write this, cuz i can get out some of my own feelings... you know? I hate it, my whole family is uber religious - both sets of grandparents are missionaries - and... i always feel so... weird aroudn them now. cuz obviously, i dont believe any of it at all.
i love that line. its one of my favorites from the album. i like, over use it. "im so afraid of life".. but...it FITS so WELL.
