Tifa stood behind the bar in Seventh Heaven, wiping down a few of the recently gleaned glasses. It was one of those rare nights where she closed up early, letting their makeshift family have run over the area. The sun was setting over the city of Edge, filtering in through the curtains that would be drawn closed in a few minutes.
Cloud sat at one of the round tables in the middle of the room, maps of Gaia spread out in front of him. It was obvious that he was planning routes for the next day's deliveries, making notes in illegible scratch. Marlene and Denzel at on chairs on either side of him, both doing their own homework. Occasionally, Marlene would scoot over to the chair next to Denzel, asking him to pronounce a word for her.
They all sat in silence for a bit as Tifa cleaned. It was once Denzel finished his homework things got a bit louder.
"You're going to Kalm?"
Cloud nodded.
"Why not go that way?" Denzel started, pointing to one of the roads leading to the town.
"It might be quicker, but it has more monsters."
Cloud leaned forward, pointing to the route he circled on the map earlier. "This is more of a well-travelled road. It's safer."
Denzel leaned back in his chair, put his arms behind his head and grinned. "But you're a hero! You can easily win, Cloud!"
Marlene spoke up then. "But if he gets hurt, Tifa will be mad."
All three of them looked towards her right then. "I only get mad if he's not careful!"
Cloud turned to Denzel at that point, a knowing look in his eyes. "And that's why I take the longer route."
[Like always, Tifa woke up suddenly. Normally she'd immediately reach for the Dreamberry to turn it off. Instead, she just laid in her bed and smile for a bit before turning off the feed.]
