I got invited to Zigfried's Halloween party! I haven't been to any kind of party for a long time- which sucks because it's so fun to be around friends and have fun... (Woah, I just felt nostalgic for my University experiences! 0_0 Not good!)
Anyway, the theme is pantheon gods, right? Well, I decided to go as myself! ^_^ I know that sounds selfish and prideful, but once I explain it, you'll understand. I promise!
In Finnish mythology (which in truth, comes from a broad mixture of Northern European myths and beliefs, so it's not really "ours", per say >_>) there is the Finnish sky god "Ilmarinen". Not much is known about him- Finnish mythology is confusing because while it existed it was hardly ever recorded! So Finnish mythology is pretty vague.
The sky god Ilmarinen is not well known because he is overshadowed by another Ilmarinen- a blacksmith from the Kalevala! The Kalevala is an epic poem made from a mixture of Finnish and Karelian folklore. It's very famous and cherished in Finland.
I was named after both version of Ilmarinen by my mother. WHY ON EARTH she chose this name for me for it having to do with the mythology and folklore confuses me. Many other Finns have this name, but it's usually because of it can be translated to "air" or because it's an unique name. But I was named Ilmarinen specifically for the reason that my mother new and admired it's origins. My mother was... one of a kind.
Okay, here's the point of all this blather: I've decided to go as Ilmarinen. The hard part is finding a picture of his NOT having to do with the Kalevala -_- I guess I can take some liberty with the design, right? It's all up to nterpretation... And there such thing as artists licence! I am an artist, after all. (YES, photography is a form of art!)
So, does anybody have suggestions on what the costume should look like? It would help a lot to have some input. And before you ask, I can sew it myself! ^_^ The nuns at my old church taught me how! But that's another story for another time...
(PS: Don't worry about Dr. Denavue! He said I can go as long as I come back, and I know I can keep that promise!)
