The military & friends

I have been on both sides of the military; I was a military spouse and then I was Active Duty. The one thing I can't stand about either side is losing friends. It happens so often. And not for reasons you would think. Yes time separates people, and you lose contact but more so people turn on each other. See, making friends was easy as a spouse. Keeping them was hard. As a soldier making friends was hard but keeping those friends was easy. A lot of women (spouses) do not want to make friends with a female soldier. They have a stereo type of a female soldier to be a whore that will sleep with their hubby once their unit gets to Iraq. But that is not true. Just like saying all men cheat while deployed. Not true. The truth is, you can't force someone to cheat if they don't want to and you can't assume every female in the military is a whore. However, like every good rule, there are exceptions. Anyway, I am happy to have kept the few true friends I have and hope to keep them for a long time to come. Making new friends is now the hard part. Sigh
