So the corn maze was a bust. We waited until it got dark before heading out, the maze was about 30 minutes out of London in Belmont. We took a few wrong turns in the dark and even passed it once. When we did wind up at the right site all the lights were out, which was confusing, I mean we knew it was spooky but you'd think they'd have lighting announcing where to go. Well, upon further inspection there was a police officer camped in front of the driveway and apparently the maze had been shut down for being "too dangerous". Seriously lame. So basically we drove back to London (without getting lost) and came home. The funny thing was that this was the last day for the maze and they decided to shut it down after two weeks of action. Needless to say I was disappointed but I handled it well enough. By the time we finally found out what was going on I was ready for bed anyways. Still kinda let down today because I wanted to do one of those Ontario things I had never done before. Maybe next year. Though I hear these things (including haunted houses) are becoming a thing of the past because of rising insurance premiums, etc. That's a real shame. I remember when I was a kid there were haunted houses everywhere in October.
So Feist was good. She played her exact set list from when we saw her last November. I can't really complain about that because she played most of my favorites (again). The bigger venue still suited her--I was worried that it wouldn't--and the added effects that the bigger venue afforded her were also very cool. We got confetti explosions during "1, 2, 3, 4" and miniature camera work inside the piano and on the floor at Feist's feet. Our seats were pretty fantastic if you take away the fact that we were surrounded by an astounding number of assholes. The one thing I could defiitely notice a difference in was the crowd. Last time we saw her at a smaller, more intimate venue that seated 1,000. It sold out easily. So she upsized this time coming to a venue that was set up for 3,000. I don't know if it sold out, but it was close to it and I feel like the other 2,000 people are the ones that are iPod commercial fans of a song or two. There was no courtesy for the artist, or the opening artist for that matter--they were awful for him, and even during the concert they couldn't stop talking or going for drinks or the bathroom visits that were necessitated by all the drinks. It was just really unfortunate because I think had that stuff not happened, I would have liked this concert more but as my anxiety dictates I tend to get distracted and obsessive about things like these so I had a very difficult time enjoying the show for periods of more than 4 minutes at a time. The kicker of this all was a drunk--and I mean on their faces, drunk--couple that sat next to us. When they came in the smell of booze was rolling off them. It made me sick to my stomach and not because I don't drink, it was just really unpleasant smelling. So they plopped down beside me and started to laugh and carry on like they were at a rock n' roll concert... before the concert even started. He kept going for more and more beer and the wife was already in the bag, like needed help walking drunk. The ultimate end to this story was that she got upset when he left for more beer and when he came back she took off and they never came back. Sad, really.
Feist, however, was totally on her game. She amazed me with her musicianship once again and I found myself feeling drawn out by her music and ultimately that's what is important. She genuinely looks like she's having a great time on stage every time she's up there and it's infectious. Plus, I ♥ her guitar playing. I was trying to find a live version of "Secret Heart" to include with my post but the only "live" versions I can find are in the studio with radio stations so they're very subdued. An actual live version, however, would express how much she rocks. Maybe next time.
