I know, I know...I don't ever update. I don't know why. I check LJ at least once a day...I just never feel up to writing.

Anyway, I'm currently in somewhat of a wonderful delimma. ( Before I explain it, I'm going to give a little background info for those who haven't been in close proximity to me for the last few weeks and therefore haven't heard me bitch about it. )

I thought the teacher raises were statewide? Or am I making that up?

From what you've said, though, I'd go with HS#1. It sounds like fun to me.

yeah...statewide raises went into effect last year. That was just the minimum salary required by the state. (and it was pretty much negated by the changes in emplyee-paid healthcare premiums.) Most districts pay above state minimum, and this was a round-rock specific raise of the amount they pay above state minimum.

Does that make sense?

I understand what you said. But Round Rock paying that much better than AISD, no, I wouldn't say that makes sense.

Much of the teacher's salary is determined by how much the school district can raise through taxes. Austin has a MANY more low income residents, and more areas of low property values (compared to RR, that is). AISD may also be increasing teacher salaries next year...I don't know because the salary schedules aren't posted yet.

Their salaries are one of the reasons they're losing teachers, and why competition to get jobs in other districts is so much tougher.

None of the schools I'm considering are in AISD, however. The HS's are in Pflugerville and Leander/Cedar Park.

Ah, so that's what you meant by "slightly closer."
