There are only 5 guys in my cohort at school. There are about 20 girls. Therefore, the guys end up with an overinflated sense of their own specialness and value. Sometimes I just want to shake one of them and say "Just because you're A MAN doesn't mean you're THE MAN. Act right.

My very fun but very mischievous friend Becky likes to play "grab*ss" when we're out drinking. She weaves her way through the crowd, taking a handful out of random guys' backsides and then stays cool as a cucumber while they look around for the culprit. I'm counting the days until this girl inadvertently gets me smashed over the head with a beer bottle.

The center for traumatic brain injuries had a Christmas party. I walked in to about 40 severely injured patients from different houses with agression, sexual, and impulse problems all mingling in front of a tree. I instantly felt overwhelmed and anxious, calculating the 56,000 things that could go horribly wrong. Then they all started opening the presents the clinical staff picked out for them, and the smiles started and never faded. I wouldn't have left that party if you paid me. This is seriously a job where you can get punched in the face and still have a great day.

Finals sucked so bad. For one class, we had to write 2 papers and take a final exam. One class. Turns out, I got a 95 on the final (woohoo!), but I haven't heard about the papers. For another class, I haven't found out what I got on the final exam, but my final grade has been entered into the university system as an "A." Hell yeah. For my last class, I had to write a 20 page paper, do 2 multiple baseline graphs, and design a computer program for the experiment on which the paper was based. Definitely the worst. I haven't heard about that final paper or my grade for the class. Fingers crossed.

It finally snowed here, and the city all but shut down. Being from the northeast, I couldn't understand it until I tried to walk to work the next day. This city decided it doesn't snow frequently enough to warrant any kind of snow removal program (budget), and the days are warm and the nights are freezing. You know what that adds up to? A friggin' skating rink. People and cars were just.....drifting... everywhere.

Being the impoverished student that I am, I bought most of my Christmas presents this year from the online points store of my credit card. I did this, of course, while procrastinating for finals. Hopefully everything gets shipped home to NH in time for gift-giving.

Tonight Carey and I are decorating my tiny Christmas tree, watching The Grinch, and building a gingerbread house together. A little later, he'll probably stuff my stocking (hee hee). Sorry. I'm just totally giddy to spend quality time with him with no deadlines looming and no article-reading to do.

I've been cooking for Carey since finals ended in an attempt to partially make up for all the domestic duties he's been attending to while I'm up to my ears in school work. Last night I made him risotto-stuffed peppers and a spring and gorgonzola salad, and this morning (afternoon) I made veggie omelets, old bay homefries, and a package of bacon. A FULL PACKAGE.

My parents are getting me the entire series of The Golden Girls for Christmas. It comes in a box with a handle that looks exactly like Sophia's purse. Dork-tastic!

Heat and hot water aren't included in the rent here the way they are in NYC, so I've learned the fine art of keeping the heat at 55 and bundling up like an Inuit inside the apartment. It's not sexy, but it saves a lot of money.

Speaking of NYC, I'm reeeeeeeaaallllly missing it lately. Wes texted me from our annual white elephant party, and friends are posting pictures of Rock Center and the tree on Facebook, Allison is moving to Singapore and I won't get to see her before she leaves......sigh.

I can't believe the first semester of grad school is over. It's been amazing so far.
