I'm a bit slow posting about our weekend, but I have good excuses. First, I tried to post on Monday, but our stupid computer shut down and I lost what I'd typed. Second, all three of us have been sick with the flu this week. I can actually lift my head without falling over this morning. Paul, Nathan and I went to the Adirondacks (NY) last weekend for an 89th birthday party for my grandmother. We didn't think we would be able to go, because Paul was scheduled to work on Saturday and I didn't feel that I should drive that far (about 350 miles one way) this time of year with a young child and an old car. Then Paul cam home on Thursday night and said that he didn't have to work after all. SO we packed up the car Friday night and started out fairly early Saturday morning. Before we had even gotten out of Maine, we realized that this might be a REALLY long trip. Nathan was not a happy camper and cried almost the entire time. We evn stopped at one point in NH, about halfway there, and talked about weather or not we should turn around and go home. At that point, though, we would've been in the car for at least a few hours either way, so we decided to keep going, but we stopped several times for stretch breaks. Then, the directions we had miscalculated (by quite a bit) how far it was from place to place and that made us a bit nervous. Anyway, we made it there about 2.00 and the house where we stayed was lovely (my family rented a "retreat house" for the party and for out-of-town guests. It was the first time that side of the family had met Nathan, and of course, he was a big hit. It was great to see my grandmother and she said that she had the best birthday ever, and was so thrilled to get to meet and hold her only great-grandson (she has 3 great-granddaughters). She is blind and has Altzheimer's, and it was a blessing that she was having a "good day." And I have a terrific husband for understanding how important this trip was for me, despite how difficult the trip there was. On the way home, Nathan hardly made a peep, but instead took naps and sat in his seat quietly talking to himself. Go figure. (Getting him into and keeping him quiet in his seat lately can be hit or miss.) Thant was our weekend, and now we're sick. Nathan was feeling better long before us "old fogeys" in part because he's much younger, and also because he's had half a flue shot already (he's due for the other half next week) He also has his pre-op visit next week. I'll be glad when that whole thing is over.
Ta-ta everyone
