History would be much more interesting if it were taught from a less militaristic more personalist point of view. I'm reading a little excerpt from Thirza Vallois' Around and About Paris (http://www.franceonyourown.com/News_11_3_03.htm if you're interested) and it's making me want to learn about the little stories of French history so badly. I love reading about historical myths and folktales, especially when they're linked to a place I can visit myself. Like, aside from Moulin Rouge, I know nothing practically about Montmartre and bohemianism in the late 1800s. I would love to know more. Knowing the history of a place you're visiting endows it with so much more meaning. J'aime bien les petites histoires.
