I wasn't able to post an entry yesterday for some reason. It must have been a busy day here on LJ, with everyone sharing their 4th of July experiences... Anyway, I didn't do the meme I was supposed to do, so I have another one for today, which I got from
thekaleidyscope . So, here are my five words, and if you want five of your own, ask and you shall receive:).
Summer is a season I both like and dislike. For one thing, I burn easily. I got burned quite badly in Suomenlinna on Wednesday, and I've been applying lotion on my arms ever since I came home. Serves me right for not using sunscreen... Also, I have a bad pollen allergy, which complicates my life from spring to late summer. But there are the upsides of nice weather, more time to spend with friends and family, and being able to go out without putting on lots and lots of clothes. I love the fact that the sun goes down so late, it's still quite light at 9 PM this time of year.
Astrology is a fascinating subject, but it can get out of hand, if you start planning your life around it. I would venture to say that an understanding of astrology, especially the basics of sun sign characteristics and symbolism, can make life richer and help you to understand people you might have a hard time understanding otherwise. I don't see it as any sort of religion or heresy, personally.
Television is a luxury I can't afford at the moment, but I'm probably going to buy a digital box thingy, without which it's no longer possible to watch TV here, as soon as I get a job. I wouldn't necessarily do it if it weren't for the new tax we're about to get, that makes everyone pay for watching TV, whether they actually do or not. We have TV licenses, which you have to pay in order to watch legally, and people come to your door and ask if you have a license, and if you don't, you get fined. It's obviously not working very well, because the officials can't search your home without a search warrant, and many people just don't open for them, and wacth anyway. I'm glad that's about to change, although I don't look forward to the tax increase.
Ghosts are something I kind of think I ought to believe in, since I do believe that people have immortal souls. As for anything like proof, I have none. I've never encountered anything that could be construed as a ghost. I think ghost stories are entertaining, and often very touching, but I don't think about them all that much. I'm also not afraid of the dark, or of graveyards.
Musical instruments are the cause of great enjoyment for me. I love playing the keyboard, and the guitar, and I used to play the recorder a bit. I like the sound of the flute, the harp. the piano, the guitar, the cello, and the violin. I tend to prefer classical and folk music. In Finland, the accordeon is a popular instrument, and I hate how it sounds:(.
So, that's a whole entry around a meme... We had a good time yesterday with my friend. We went to the library, cooked, and baked, and last but not least, went through a playground on our way to the train I take from her part of town. The park had a cable car thing, that's not really a cable car, and I don't know what you call it in English. You climb on to a sort of swing, and hold on, and it glides along a cable at a nice speed for some 30 feet. I haven't ridden one in years. There were also some nice wooden sculptures there, of lions, hippos, and a crocodile, which was quite terrifying. I assume it was a crocodile, I can never remember which way the teeth go on crocodiles as opposed to alligators (overbite or underbite?).
My friend gave me some yarn for a shawl, so I finally have something to knit again. It's going to be a shawl when it's all grown up. I've spent the day knitting and surfing. I really needed a break after all the running to and fro this week, and I got it. Tomorrow, I'm going to buy some sock yarn, and maybe some cushions, if I can find them, and then I'm going to have dinner with my parents again. Have a nice weekend, and see you tomorrow, I hope!
