A tale of three kitties

I went to see my parents again today, and we had a nice time, gorging ourselves on chicken, mashed potatoes and layered cake. I practised the keyboard for an hour and a half, and amazingly, both our cats just lay there on the bed beside the keyboard, and listened drowsily, finally dropping off to sleep. My dad always says that's what comes from being consistently kind and gentle with pets: they learn to trust you, and know that you would never harm them, and so they take all kinds of things in their stride. My own cat, Senna, who died two years ago, wasn't as tolerant as these two for some reason, although she was treated just as gently. She had a mind of her own, and the one thing she couldn't stand at all was the sound of a guitar. I used to play the guitar, and as soon as I took it up and started to put everything in order for playing, she would dash out of the room, and not return before I stopped. My cousin's dog had a similar hatred for one particular Christmas song. As soon as we started singing it, she wanted to leave the room, and if the door was closed, she put her paw on the handle to open it and make her getaway. We could never help laughing, it was so comical, especially since she would listen to anything else, except for that one, inoffensive song about Santa's elfs eating, drinking and dancing to celebrate Christmas:).
Yesterday, quite late in the evening, a sudden loud noise in the yard made me look out the window, and I saw a cat. It was raining a little, and very cold, so I thought I'd go and look if the cat would have a collar with the owner's phone number. I know I would be beside myself not knowing where a pet of mine had gone (I've only ever had rats, a mouse, and the cat). Well, I went out and tried to coax the cat to come closer, but it ran away. I hope it got home all right. Many people hate stray cats, and there have been occasions when stray animals have been shot, although I believe it's illegal to harm any pets. Today has been sunny, anyway, so the cat is probably at least dry and warm by now.
Nothing more to report today, I think. Happy Cinco de Mayo (yep, I know about it thanks to the Late late show) to all my LJ friends in the U.S., and a belated happy Star Wars day to all! I really ought to see those movies one of these days... Till tomorrow!
