So the live-action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender is going to be released on July 2. I would've loved to see a live-action version of the series I fell so hard (SO HARD) for on television, so it's kind of heartbreaking that it makes me so angry, that I can't feel any excitement or anticipation for it, that I actively hope that it tanks ( Read more... )

It annoys me, because Last Airbender was something I would really have LIKED to see - I'm not familiar with the series at all but I just like well-done fantasy/action movies and going to the cinema is my favourite thing to do in the summer. But the moment all this race wank came up I knew I wasn't going to be able to stomach it. Reprisentative issues stick me HARD because being in a sexual minority and also being a writer and avid reader and consumer of creative media it NEVER fails to piss me off that so many popular mediums lack GLBT representation. Even the stuff 'for children' - like Merlin - because nothing says 'you are invisible' like a really popular, successful show with pretty much canonical subtext that then completely and totally refuses to acknowledge the possibility of the existence of glbt people in the main cast of characters ( ... )

Oh, thank you.

This was a series that my sister loved and I admired, but neither of us are going to support the film in any way, shape or form.

I've been feeling really torn about whether or not to see this movie or not, and this has solidified my decision not to. (at least, not to pay to see it)
