I forgot my usb cord for my cam so I can't download my photos from Sean's comp. If you want to see picts go to Sean's lj which is username Segrada or Julie whose username is Juliabulia. I should have huge post in about a week. This is the first day in a week I have had to just sit down for more than an hour...and it is painful. I went horseback riding yesterday but let's start from last weeks adventures.
I arrived into Wellington on Thursday at noon and Sean and I were another flight to Christchurch by 5pm. We arrived in Chirstchurch and booked into a decent hostel. We met up with his friend John and got crazy..I am blaming it on extreme jetlag. We drove from Christchurch down to Dunedin and stayed in "a dodgy" hostel. The next day it was off to the Otago Peninsula where we stopped at the Moeraki boulders which were oddly perfect shaped spherical boulders on the beach. We went from there to the Royal Albatross Colony. Sean and I stayed at a great b&b in the Catlins and even saw a waterfall. The b&b was great because it did not have creepy vibe and we had the entire house to ourselves. We headed out the next day for Stewart Island. A little cold and wet but pretty just the same. Some of this may be out of order but it works just the same. At one point when I was driving stick shift on the left side of the road in a very rural area I ended up herding cows with car by simply driving along them and pulling the steering wheel to the left to nudge them back into the corral. I guess I can mark that off my list of things to do before I die although it was not on there to start with.
Sean and I got back into Wellington on Monday morning and by Tuesday morning the "Girls Trip" was off and running. Julie, Ashlin and myself rented a car and drove several hours to Rotorua and were lucky enough to get a crisp clear day. We stopped along the way at Lake Taupo and Huka Falls. Ashlin and Sean both have decided that I cannot be a map reader in NZ because of my complete failure to pronounce towns and streets names that are written in Maori. That night we went to Tamaki Maori Village and went to a hangi and saw the haka (food and ritual ways). The next morning we woke up and went to the Polynesian Spa which were natural hot springs that looked onto the lake. BEAUTIFUL and Relaxing. We headed for Waitomo and made it there by late afternoon. We saw a glowworm cave that was amazing. You went in a little boat and made you way into the deepest park of the cave. We also stopped at Otoroanga Kiwi house and saw some huge Kiwis. Also on the way back Jules and I spotted a Ostrich farm and had Ashlin pull over so we could take photos. We were taking photos of the closest one when we realized that they were all slowly coming in our direction. Once we confirmed that they do attack we qickly got back into the car. We were supposed to stop and sleep and Ashlin's friend's house about two hours out Welington but saw the sign for Welly and kept driving and got in some time after midnight. The next moring we went to the Zoo and out later that night for Indian. I did not know that my dish would be SOOO spicy until I was eating my Vindaloo lamb and my eyes and nose started watering. It was delish! A bunch of us went out Saturday night for Sean's birthday. Wow! What a nutty night! I will not even attempt to explain without photos. I think we all got home around 5am with the exceptions of a few and somehow we were all on horses by 10am. Segrada has more on that. With delayed sleepy reactions from the night before I attempted to duck and use my helmet to block a thorny tree. The tree was stronger than I though and now I have the scars on my face that will act as a constant reminder of my trip to NZ. Photos to come. Ouch! Last night was spent resting and today too. Off to the market, Sean's fridge and cupboards are barren and I need food.
