I promised myself last year that I wouldn't be going to Burning Man this year. Apparently, I don't keep my promises to myself very well as I'll be heading out for the desert in a few. I managed to avoid the same problems that I had last year. I invested too much time, effort, and money. I am traveling light this year and aside from welding on a few things, I've done pretty much nothing. I am taking the essentials and nothing more: Clean underwear, a toothbrush, a half gallon of vodka, a pound of beef jerky, sixty assorted ice cream treats, and about fifteen pounds of dry ice. It's like going to war, really. Except that in this war, there's hugging instead of killing and there's a lot more naked people. Hopefully, I can barter for some food and water when I get there. I know all of you survivalist nuts preparedness enthusiasts are wincing right about now, so I'll give you something else to think about:
My friend has a small single-engine airplane. It's a Cessna 210T if you really want to know. He wants to put together a kit that he can store in his plane for survival purposes in the event of an unexpected off-airport landing. The question becomes, what goes in the kit? He wants to store it all in a medium-sized Pelican case. Other than the obvious, I was thinking that a personal locator beacon might be nice. A GPS would be handy to have as well. Any suggestions even including the obvious like what to put in a first-aid kit would be welcome.
