There are many things many people can say about the Human Torch, but lying to his closest friends and family to their faces? Not one of them.
Seeing Spider-Man's unmasked statue and the oh-so-convenient wear and tear on the face, making it unrecognizable, steams Johnny. All sorts of little things are coming back to him -- adventures they've had, people they've fought, trips Spidey's taken with the four of them, and Johnny can't remember what Spider-Man looks like, or even what his real name is.
The worst part is, Johnny's got the niggling feeling he should know, but he can't bring it to mind.
"I need to know what I used to know!" He's worked up now, all thoughts of lizards and cannons and Sue's forcefield unimportant as he grabs Spider-Man's shoulders. Spider-Man's standing there like he's part of the family, except Johnny can't remember a damn thing about him. "Who the hell are you?! Tell me! You say you're my friend but--"
"No! I am not going down that road again!" He doesn't expect the shove, and shock works its way through Johnny as he floats a few feet above the ground, followed quickly by another flare up of anger. "And if that means we're not friends? Fine!"
"Ow. Did you just--" And now he's staring at Spider-Man's back. That's just uncalled for. "Hey! Don't walk away from me when I'm--"
"No. We're done!"
Isn't Spider-Man supposed to be one of his best friends? And this is how he's being treated?
"No, you're done!" Johnny yells. His flame burns a little hotter, a little brighter, and he forgets that he's trapped inside a force field with three people other than the webbed asshole walking away from him. "WELL DONE!"
He'd say the ball of flame's an accident, but Johnny knows better. He's more than just angry enough to let his flame fly like that. He's hurt.
The flash that goes off is enough of a surprise that it tempers his anger for a second. Johnny doesn't mean for anything to go that bright, and as he brings a hand up to brush off the telling off he already knows is coming from Sue, everything's changed.
"What?"
He's not in the macroverse anymore, and as Johnny takes in his new surroundings with an almost unsurprised sort of surprise, he realizes something's on fire.
