The lobby of my apartment building is technically the basement, since the building is built into the side of the a very steep hill. So you have to walk all the way down the hill and under the "first" floor to get inside. There only natural light comes from the double-paned glass doors, then you enter the dark, dank "lobby." I've never minded it (the craptastic elevator on the other hand....) but today was a new experience.
I walked into the laundry room, which is in the far back of the lobby and off to the side. There was a man standing over the laundry room garbage, sorting through a Rubbermaid container and sniffing. Really loudly. I went about my business, putting my detergent and clothing into the laundry machine. And the guy just stood there, sniffing. Not looking at me or anything, he was just hunched over the garbage sniffing. Just as I finished loading my quarters, he shuffles out of the laundry room, still sniffing, and heads out the front door.
I really hope his doesn't live here, because I can't quite seem to get rid of the mental image of this creepy guy bent over the laundry room garbage, holding onto women's undergarments plucked fresh from the dryer... and sniffing.
