“All hands on deck! Secure the lines! We can't let this storm take advantage of us!” the captain of the ship yells through the darkness, wind, rain, thunder and the panic between the crew members of the ship. Though some of them were doing as they were commanded, most of them were just holding onto anything for their lives including Aoi. Sure, he had anticipated the journey to a new place where he could explore something different from the castle and the small island that he lived in, and he had totally expected a storm at least once or twice. The problem was that he had no idea what to do at a time of trouble like this.

“Aoi! You can't be out here, you should be in the cabin!” His friend shouts frantically at him while grabbing almost desperately onto his shoulder. He would honestly be in the shelter by now, but the deck was slippery, the ship was rocking back and forth, and who knows what in the world could happen to him? Turning his eyes towards the door of the cabin, he inches closer and closer to it, still holding on. Releasing one of his hands, he stretches out to grab onto the door knob. If his arms weren't so short, he would be at least touching the handle with his fingertips. So cautiously, carefully, he lets go completely.

The ship teeters and turns sharply as the wind picks up the water and swings them back on course. However, the sky was still having it's tantrum and tearing up viciously at the citizens at sea, particularly at Aoi. It pushed him down, making him slide across the floor and threw him violently into the air. Gravity grabbed onto him by it's hands and hugged him closer to the sea, colliding painfully with the water below, and the cold-blooded, crashing, waves swallowing him whole.

He fights with the rushing waters of the sea to at least catch his breath, and once he gets a hold of the stilled waters, his eyes, blurry from the water, see that the ship is too far for him to catch up with. Knowing that he was extremely far from land, death is his only option. A blurry figure of a person with brown hair soaked with salt water from a far distance comes in contact with his sight. As a gush of water lands on his face he sees a tail from underwater. He smiles weakly in thought that he's hallucinating. He treads the water quietly, and after a while floats on his back, deciding to battle with the ocean no more.

Just as the storm had affected the outside world, Kouyou knew that it, in fact, affected underwater as well. The water had lowered in temperature drastically, the rolling sound of the waves moving got louder, and things started flying-- well, floating around. He never liked storms because they scared the scales out of him, even though some mermans, mermaids and other creatures enjoyed playing around in them, they were always warned to stay in the shelters.

Curling up in his clam shell, Kouyou leaves a crack open and peeks through it to see what's going on. For some odd reason, this storm is worst than most that he's seen in his life; there was probably a ship nearby that was trying to get their control back. Sure enough, there was; in the distance, though blurred through the dirty ocean waters, he saw a ship bobbing up and down. He didn't hate ships or anything like that, but it was a disturbance to his nation. Putting his head down, he sighed and prayed silently that the people would be able to get back on track and remain calm during their crisis. A sudden sound of something being heavily dropped through the water startled him from his peace. Peeking through the shell, he sees something, rather, someone, someone with legs. A human.

Kouyou opens his shell and quickly swims towards the person, he didn't know much about humans, but one thing he knew was that they couldn't breathe underwater. The human begins to struggle through the waves; luckily the waters begin to cease while he's doing so. Kouyou stops in his tracks to see how it's doing (though he's mostly worried about whether the human is dead or alive), and he sees the human weakening bit by bit, and the ultimately, still, staying afloat. Quickly, he swims towards the body and holds onto it gently in his arms.

He grabs onto the wrist and feels a pulse, feeling for any different patterns within a minute, concluding that his life is currently unharmed. His eyes shift towards the features of the person, unconscious in his arms.

"What a beautiful face. Poor thing, did you fall off your ship?"

For some reason, he looks familiar in Kouyou's eyes. Still holding onto his wrist, he turns it so that the palm of the man's hands is facing him. The blisters, scars and partially healed cuts give it away.

He is no other but the young prince of the Shiroyama descent, the one who's imagination is wider than the oceans combined, the one who's curiosity would absolutely miss the catfish, and the one who loves the sea. Aoi is the name he goes by, and Kouyou smiles as he knows by heart who this person is. Not only that, but he thinks he's able to save him from this habitat that prince couldn't adapt to.

Holding his waist with one arm and making sure that his head stays out of the water, he begins to swim towards a familiar spot where Aoi usually brings his boat, knowing that it's a place where you can see his home. The area is marked with a pearly-blue conch shell that he had found long ago in the depths of the sea, Kouyou remembers that vividly. It was the first time he saw him, and he had thought that he was a merman since he was topless at the time, but once he swam back up with his treasure, he saw his feet kicking through the clear water. Some sea animals in the area were upset with him, stealing what could have been a home for...well...something, but Kouyou let him slide saying, “He's only human.” But little do the animals and Aoi know that a crab lives in the little space at the very tip of the shell.

The streams of sunlight begin to break through the clouds as they reach their first destination, and it's like the water clears up and glows with it as well. Now swimming won't be too hard for the merman, but he takes a break to watch the clouds float away and to see the giant castle that Aoi just so happens to live in. It's a beautiful thing to see, it doesn't look dreary and creepy like the other castles from around the world, instead this one is almost white and shines in the sunlight. It's simply breath-taking, but Kouyou thinks that he likes the ocean better.
He starts to swim again, with Aoi in his arm, cautious about how far he'll swim since he was nearing dry land. Feeling the sand graze against the end of his tail, he stops and unfortunately, has to let the prince go. He hopes that the tide will bring him onto shore where he'll wake up wondering how he got here.

“Is that Aoi? It is!” Kouyou hears from a distance. He quickly swims away, far enough that the humans won't see him, but close enough that he's able to see Aoi. There are 3 people running on the sands towards him calling his name, most likely his two brothers and his sister. His brothers looked different from him, since they both had blonde hair that shone brighter than sand on a summer day. His sister was more alike to him, the colour of driftwood adorning her long wavy hair. She kneels down and shakes her brother by his shoulder, and with a sigh of relief, Aoi wakes up from the terrible nightmare from last night. He coughs violently, and out comes water and a violet fish from his mouth. Kouyou laughs as his brothers back away, and the shorter one hides behind the taller one.

He sees them talking with each other, then Aoi stands up and they all walk back to their home sweet home, but before he leaves the tide, he picks up the fish flopping around trying to get to water, and releases it back to sea. The fish jumps happily, thanking the human and swims back to the merman's arms.

Holding the creature in his hands, he watches the beautiful prince return back home, hoping that he would be able to see him again, and secretly wishing that maybe one day, Aoi would see him too.
