"I need to talk to you about something privately in person. Is tomorrow alright?"
The door with the golden-bronze plate labelled "Suzuki" in front of him. He grabbed the dull colored handle and whacked it against the door a few times, making that 'clank' sound scream down the hallway. Just when he was about to 'knock' again, the door opened with a "just-got-out-of-bed" Reita. Hair ruffled into a messy mound on his head, bags under his eyes, t-shirt and boxers only and he wasn't wearing his nose band.
Uruha was taken aback by Reita's appearance, since he normally wore his nose band and also it was already quite late. "Um...good morning?"
"You're here early..." Reita grumbled while opening the door wider and covering his mouth with the palm of his hand when he yawned. "Come in."
When Uruha was taking off his shoes and putting them neatly in the corner, Reita had wandered back to his room to get a jacket for himself. He returned wearing a oversized grey hoodie and his nose band wrapped around his face.
"Look's like someone just rolled out of bed." Uruha scoffed as he watched Reita paddle barefoot into onto the cold kitchen tiles preparing himself a coffee.
"This is why I work at night 'Ruha." he explained. "Coffee?"
"I had some earlier this morning, thanks."
Reita just shrugged and got himself a cup to store the drink in. After pouring the dark liquid into a white porecelin cup, he took it with him and sat in front of Uruha at the kitchen table. Setting the cup down and waiting for it to cool a bit.
"What was it that you wanted to talk about?" He asked.
"Well, err..." Uruha mumbled. How was he supposed to explain this? It was harder than he thought it would be. "It's mostly about Aoi and I but I just would like to tell you your...hm...how can I say it, expectations?" He tried. "Like, there's certain things that you can't do."
"You mean, rules...and regulations. You're saying I can't do naughty things, right?" Reita smiled.
Uruha nodded while giggling at his response.
"Well, go on, I'm listening." he said as he picked up the cup and brought it to his lips, carefully sipping at his drink.
"Alright." Clearing his throat, the blonde continued.
"It's kind of my fault in a way that you have these rules, but you're the one who brought me to Aoi. I would just like you to know that there are certain things that you need to be careful of."
Making sure Reita was listening, he looked up to lock his own eyes with Reita's. In response with the cup to his lips still, his friend nudges his head, showing the sign of "go on" to him.
"First thing is the most important, you are not to tell Aoi that I am an...angel. Okay?"
"What happens if it slips?" Reita asks as he puts the cup down onto the table.
"I disappear, because there won't be a point in me being there. Aoi will find his own happiness without me; and I can't let that happen. Second, you cannot tell Aoi that I am leaving in a year. Why? Because when I leave, you're not supposed to have any memory of me. You're wondering what would happen if you take pictures with me, I will disappear from the picture and it will be left blank. Get it?"
Reita nods.
"Good."
A brief silence.
"That's it? I thought there would be more. Just two simple tasks right?"
"They may sound easy, but they actually aren't. We angels aren't supposed to tell people that we're here for our certain purpose since people won't remember us anyways." Uruha smiles. "I'm just lucky that I found a trustworthy person to tell all this to." he says getting up from his seat and ruffling Reita's already messed up hair.
"Now I need information on Aoi."
"Uruha, you just sounded so creepy just now." Reita retorts.
"Hey, shut up! I need it for certain reasons okay? It's not like I'm going to tell anyone!"
"More like you don't have anyone to tell at all." Reita mumbles as he rolls his eyes.
"Okay!" Uruha says enthusiastically. "First, I need to know Aoi's occupation."
Reita sighs and finishes his last drop of coffee. "I don't exactly know what he does but I'm pretty sure he's the manager of a certain branch in a company."
"Do you know how long his working hours are?" He asked.
"He works 12 hours a day, from 5AM to 5PM. Usually gets back at around 5:15 and then works some more in his room, sometimes eats dinner in there. He's a very busy man. And I mean, busy to the point he doesn't have any spare time to even have a fun conversation with me." Reita explained.
"Is he stressed most of the time? He seems like it since he doesn't talk so much."
"Well it's not like he has anyone to talk to anyways. All he has to do is organize, organize and organize some more. I can tell he doesn't like the job all that much ever since he got it. He gets angry all the time now and he's turned so self centered." He sighs.
"You seem to know him very well already."
"I've been friends with him since we were little kids in elementary school, and I'm quite sure this isn't like him at all. He used to be a very happy person, he laughed everyday, he smiled everyday; even at the hardest times. He's had many problems with other people, and I couldn't understand how he could stay standing like that. He did it to the point where he thought he was just much more superior than everyone else. I couldn't stand him anymore; he was then hated, mocked and lonely. And now, he just hates everyone, even myself."
A thin heartstring in Reita loosens and unties on one side, falling down gently, lightly brushing against the bottom of his heart.
Uruha wants to squeeze more answers from Reita, but he hears his heartbeat falter just a little. He hopes that one more question won't hurt.
"You probably don't know the answer to this question..." Uruha starts, "But, do you know why Aoi is..."
"...Do you know why I can't hear his heartbeat?"
