In the process of cleaning up from the goat house today,
dionysusdevotee found a nest of baby cottontail bunnies, which were abandoned by the parent and probably doomed. Little. Tiny. Cottontail. Babies. They are so leetle and fragile and cute, you just want to eat them, crunchy crunchy. (Don't ask me why I think these things. I am a vegetarian, mostly. Except tiny prey animals make me feel very predatory.)
Anyway, we brought them in the house cause it looked likely that they would die. And a good thing, too, because just a while later we saw the cat sniffing around the exact spot where their nest was. Bad kitty!
It is cool to have a veterinarily skilled teenager in the house. She took on the task of figuring out what and how to feed them because
dionysusdevotee and I were overwhelmed with work for the wedding that starts tomorrow. She's very capable when it comes to things like how to get milk into a minute blind baby mammal without squishing it. I are proud of teenlet.
Fortunately the beings are not staying here, and have found at least a temporary home at somebody else's zoo. Somebody's kids are going to be uber-hyped about how cute these things are.
