Cold, cold cold! It has been freezing deep. In the mid-teens every night. Pipes frozen at night, no water in the morning. Cold all day, never getting above about 40 in the sunshine. We burn wood all day long to keep the house reasonable. At night, of course, the fire burns down while we sleep and we wake up in a very cold house and start the fire all over again. Avia was over for the weekend and was crossing her fingers for snow, but it was too dry. Knuckle-cracking dry. For the last few nights, I've left a faucet dribbling so that the pipes don't freeze solid and we have running water; that worked until last night.
This morning I woke up to find that the drizzle of water running from the tap in the kitchen had FROZEN INTO A COLUMN OF ICE standing there between the tap and the bottom of the sink. Nice. No running water this morning.
There is no point disliking winter, because it doesn't give a crap what you think, it just keeps on freezing you. So I am having an appreciation for the ice crystals on the car in the morning, and the beauty of fire, and how happy I am to see the sun in the morning.
The car I have been borrowing has all these fancy temperature sensors that tell me how cold it is outside where I'm driving. Last night, at six o'clock, in some of the little hollows in the mountains it was already down to 25 degrees. At an hour past sunet, mind you.
