Starting to be settled in, a little, to the new place. Moving was a huge pain in the arse, as it always is, but I'm getting used to it. Now I am installed in my own house-on-my-back and feeling out this new sense of autonomy. I like it.
School has begun again. This quarter:
Conservation Biology: lots of computer population modeling and biodiversity measuring methods. Hello, Excel. Hello, job skills.
Sustainable Agriculture Senior Seminar: I get to do research papers and learn about land stewardship and organic farming. And, some of the topics we are going to work on turn out, happily, to be ones I want to research for working on the land--orchards, vineyard cover cropping, etc. It should help me develop my research plan for my thesis, to begin work on in spring.
Indonesian Dance: I get to goof off and ditch the academic in favor of moving my beloved body. So far, I know close to nil about Indonesian dance, except that it involves interestingly precise hand and eye accents (if I'm even remembering that right). But I am happy just to be getting space in my academic schedule for dance at all, I have long missed dance since school pushed regular belly dance practice out of my life.
In other news: the fucking phone company STILL hasn't hooked up my phone at the new place, may their bones rot eternally in a forgotten place. They say it will be the 10th. Harrumph. Free market economy, my ass. Why isn't there any damned competition that I can take my business to?
Well, this is a funny quiz. I've noticed a lot of people seem to be getting this card. Not to be a cynic, because it's also true that I do identify with this card, but I couldn't help noticing the way the quiz is structured to make you more likely to end up with this kind of result. I mean, who is going to pick answers like "I am a materialistic being" or "I always conform"?
I also really liked the little narrative about the priests of the oracle offering for you to buy the card for the low, low price of... Very tasteful that, very oracular. Oh, just to support the temple, of course.
