oh my.

hella was pure awesome. pretty damn pure. i've never seen a drummer be so hard hitting on his drums one moment and then be eversogentle on his splash, crash, whatever. his self control was amazing...those sticks of his were a blur for about 75 percent of the time.

and the guitarist...ah...goddamn. i didn't get to see them the first time i "saw" (read heard) them at the smell so many months ago that fateful night so i actually thought there were two guitarists on stage. at that show, i bought their full length and discovered later it was just the two fellas in the band. damn. that is just pure awesome (to repeat myself). the mystery surrounding the guitarist's technique was totally solved tonight. he's just the most virtuoso guitar player--ever. that's it. end of mystery. he played that guitar of his (covered in floral print, so sweet) like it was grass growing out of the ground. that's how fucking (that's right, fucking) natural his playing was.

the place they played at was atop a furniture store in/near? koreatown. there are about fifty furniture stores in a row on western in this area. it was somebody's house or something. damn nice kids, they are. a few of the smell hangovers were also at the show, but, eh, it's l.a.

joan of arc was pretty good too. they were quite the gentlemen, excusing themselves left and right during setup and breakdown. tim kinsella looked quite handsome in his button down plaid shirt and dark pants with the nice shoes. great hair on that one. he sang really well with sincerity AND he played his guitar. i was impressed. the bassist was great. i never knew that about joan of arc. i didn't know any of their songs going into this show, but i found myself doing a bit of head bobbing/toe tapping during their set. nice kids. i'm proud of you, tim kinsella/joan of arc.

oh yeah, joan of arc let hella close. i bet hella blew them away the night before at spaceland. yup. coo'.
