Why Life Would Be Easier If I Were Crazy.

As much as I go on about how crazy radical liberals or radical conservatives are, their lives must be so much more simple.

You see, many of you know, I'm a generally conservative person. I have MOSTLY conservative-to-moderate views on life.

BUT then I have some pretty liberal opinions too. It's really had to talk politics with people online or in real life on certain topics because MOST people I run into are either mostly-liberal or mostly-conservative. I'm moderate but more in that I have a decent mix of right and left views.

And it just makes me so uncomfortable sometimes. In RL, it isn't as bad because I live in a place where people are generally not assholes to your face. My more liberal views (such as supporting marriage equality, religious freedom, and ultra-liberal beliefs regarding immigration) are things that people won't be a jerk to me about. And then my conservative views are supported and agreed with by most everybody I know.

HOWEVER once you get on the internet, EVERYTHING. CHANGES! For one, most of my friend on here or twitter or wherever are GENERALLY pretty liberal people. And I do have some liberal ideas and I have some moderate ideas that were either liberal or conservative before that have changed, but for the most part, my liberal beliefs are supported online but dude...

I don't even SPEAK of all my conservative beliefs. I'm not going to speak of them now. I see so many posts and tweets and shit about people being outraged over something that I AGREE with and it makes me feel SO. FUCKING. AWKWARD! I support my friends beliefs as their own. They can have their opinions and I don't care how different from mine they are. But I don't want to put them off of me by telling them I dont agree. It's not that I'm afraid, it's more that I am a person who AVOIDS CONFLICT LIKE THE PLAGUE! I shut up about more than you can IMAGINE. I think rather than speak so much it isn't crazy. Keeping you thoughts to yourself is the KEY to happiness in this world.

But the worst is when people expect me to agree. A TON of my online friends take my liberal stance on a few issues to mean I will agree with their other ideas and I just don't. I have to just... fluff it off with a 'oh thats interesting' or something to avoid even a discussion that could make us feel differently about each other.

In real life, people think I'm a liberal since our conservative culture sees my 'conservative ideas as just the norm.'

And yet online I'm a conservative for the exact same reason.

But in reality, I'm neither. And it really sucks sometimes.

real life sucks, politics
