Tom wasn’t expecting it when it came, but as soon as his phone started ringing off the hook, friends calling and texting to congratulate him, he was confused, wondering why Bill had told them, only to see it before he could ask Bill.
A press release had been put out without his permission was posted on the website.
There has been much speculation lately about the band’s ties to former ‘male’ model, Andrej Pejic and his rumored pregnancy. We would like to announce that on February 11th Tom and Andrej welcomed their daughter into the world. The band thanks you for your patience in settling these rumors and for your support on this happy occasion.
“That son of a bitch!” Tom snapped and Bill glared, shushing him as they were standing in the hall outside Andrej’s room while the doctor checked on him. “It was David, wasn’t it?!” he asked, and Bill rolled his eyes.
“Yes, but he had to. You can’t keep it totally silent for so long and let rumors run wild, Tom,” Bill said. “It wasn’t right, but we had to have someone say something. I only wish-“
“I only wish people would let US handle our lives, Bill! You could’ve handled press for me while I’m busy with Andrej and Nadija, not him,” he argued. “I seriously-“
“Tom!” Tom shut up immediately as the door opened and Andrej stood there, positively beaming. “Tom!” he cried loudly throwing his arms around Tom’s neck.
Tom frowned. “Are you okay?”
Andrej pulled back and squeaked. “Tom, I get to go see her! I get to feed Nadija in just a few hours!” he gushed, and Tom’s previous anger disintegrated as he saw how happy Andrej was.
“That’s great!” Tom cried, curling his arms around Andrej carefully. “Does that mean you’re better?” he asked, and Andrej nodded.
“The doctor says I can go home tomorrow. My flu is gone, they took the staples out of my incision, and I’ve gained back a good deal of my strength,” he said.
Tom smiled happily. “So, I can assume you won’t mind me staying at your apartment so we can come be with Nadija until she’s well enough to come home?” he asked, and Andrej nodded.
“Yeah, we’re only a few blocks away so we can go home to sleep at night after staying with her,” he said, and Tom sighed in relief as he pulled Andrej into another hug.
“Things are looking up. You’re better and Nadija is growing. I cannot express how happy I am,” he said, and Andrej kissed him sweetly.
“I understand, though,” he said softly. Bill cleared his throat and Andrej blinked. “Oh, were you talking?” he asked, and Tom shook his head.
“No worries, it doesn’t matter at all compared to this,” he said, lacing his fingers with Andrej’s. “Shouldn’t you rest before you go to see Nadija?” he asked, and Andrej smiled.
“Sure, only if you’ll come sit with me. I’m so nervous, I can’t be left with my thoughts and nothing to distract me,” he said bashfully and Tom just shook his head, unable to believe that he was feeling the things he felt.
“Anything you want,” he said, giving Bill a pointed look before turning back to let Andrej lead him into the hospital room.

Tom sat beside Andrej, watching proudly as Andrej held Nadija like he was born to be her mother. He showed none of the awkwardness Tom had felt as he held her in his arms and fed her. Tom held her little hand, watching them both with so much warmth in his heart he couldn’t imagine how he had gotten so lucky. The nurse came over to help when Nadija started crying, but before she even spoke, Andrej has shifted her onto his shoulders, rubbing her back soothingly.
Tom couldn’t help but notice how, after nearly two weeks of illness and depression, Andrej was positively glowing once again. His eyes sparkled in a way Tom hadn’t seen in a while and that he hadn’t even noticed he had missed so much. When the nurse suggested Andrej do the same thing Tom had before, putting Nadija inside his shirt, he didn’t hesitate to open his robe and pluck away the tank top he wore under it to tuck Nadija inside, letting her lay against his narrow chest. He breathed a sigh as he curled his hands around her back, closing his eyes to kiss her hair.
“Mummy’s sorry he isn’t a real girl all the way and couldn’t breast feed you,” he said and Tom raised an eyebrow.
“If you’d been able, you would’ve breast fed her?” he asked, and Andrej nodded.
“For her health, definitely. My mum talked about it when my cousin had her first baby and she didn’t want to breast feed. She says a mother’s milk at least for the first little while can make the baby have better health all through its life. Something about their immune systems,” he said, pouting as he kissed Nadija’s hair. “The doctor had said that I might lactate, so I was sort of hoping I would be able to give her that help with her wellness when she was born, but I never did. He said it was definitely something that was unsure, it wasn’t like I should and just didn’t, it was just something he wasn’t able to predict well. However, I didn’t so there’s no extra immune system help for Nadija,” he said, stroking his fingers along her head.
Tom gave him a reassuring smile. “It’s alright, Andrej. She’ll be alright without it,” he said, reaching out to lay his hand on her back, feeling her through Andrej’s top. “Tiny little girl,” he said, and Andrej smiled.
“She’s a lot better looking though. She’s starting to look normal, not so pink,” he said, and Tom nodded. Andrej smiled. “I can’t wait for her to be out of here,” he said, looking down at her. “I want her home so badly.”
Tom nodded. “Well, they still have to keep her in an incubator, she’s still not able to regulate her body temperature, and she still needs to grow some more, but it can’t be too much longer,” he said, and Andrej nodded, sighing.
“I just want her home,” he said sadly, holding her close.
Tom nodded. “I know. I do too.”

When Andrej was all free to go, papers signed, fully released, they went back to the nursery to see Nadija before they went home for the night. Tom hadn’t had a proper night’s sleep in the past two weeks and he looked forward to sleeping in a bed all night, but they both felt terrible about being so far away from Nadija. Tom was scared that something would happen and they wouldn’t be there. Andrej as just scared that, somehow, his baby would need him and he couldn’t be there for her. They both held her and talked to her as long as they could before the nurse advised that it may be time to let her get some rest without being passed around.
Tom could see the sadness in Andrej’s eyes as they both gave her kisses before leaving, the sadness only deepened as they left the hospital. They had NOT expected any photographers at all, so when a few people followed them as they left the building, Tom had never been more relieved to see his bodyguard rushing from the car to help block the way for him and Andrej. Tom helped Andrej into the car and slid in behind him, curling his arm around Andrej’s shoulders as the door shut. “I’m sorry.”
Andrej sighed. “It’s alright,” he said with a soft sigh, curling into Tom’s arms. “I just want to go home and sleep,” he said, laying his head on Tom’s shoulder as he wrapped his arms around him.
Tom nodded. “You and me both, I’m exhausted.”

When they got to Andrej’s apartment, Andrej went to get a shower while Tom went about ordering them some takeout. Tom was sitting on the couch flickering through channels when Andrej came out and curled up on the couch beside him. Tom glanced over and frowned. “Are you that cold?” he asked, taking in the baggy pajama pants and big sweatshirt Andrej was wearing. “I’m not cold at all.”
Andrej sighed. “Well it’s cold and I just don’t want to look at myself,” he admitted making Tom frowned. Andrej rolled his eyes. “I haven’t looked in a mirror since I had Nadija. I didn’t realize how terrible I really look after pregnancy. I mean, I figured I’d look tired and fat, but not like this,” he said, hiding his face in Tom’s shoulder.
Tom frowned. “You’re just a little tired and pale. You don’t really look all that bad,” he said, and Andrej rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, well you haven’t seen me naked,” he said with a cringe. “I do realize I’m only two weeks post-partum and I expected a saggy c-section tummy, but I didn’t expect to still be this fat. I know a lot of women still look pretty pregnant for a week maybe, but it’s been two,” he stressed.
Tom shot him a look. “Andrej, you had a baby. And look at you!” he said, gesturing to him. “You are not fat. Your stomach will tighten up again, trust me, and you didn’t even get stretch marks,” he said, and Andrej sighed.
“Yeah, that’s good, but I’m still going to have this scar forever so it doesn’t matter as much about how my skin looks as much as how thick my middle is. I pretty much don’t have a waist anymore,” he said, groaning. “And I did get fat. My thighs are fatter, too.”
Tom sighed and shook his head. “Why is it only the most beautiful people who feel insecure?” he asked and Andrej glared. “I’m serious! Maybe I’m biased, cause I like my own face, but Bill is one of the prettiest people I’ve ever met, I would probably punch somebody for calling him ugly, and he freaks out over every tiny little thing. Be happy you’re hot! I am,” he said, and Andrej rolled his eyes.
“No, you’re stuck up, not confident,” he argued. “You think you’re God’s gift to women everywhere, there isn’t a humble bone in your body. I’ve never thought I was madly beautiful,” he said. “I always thought people were crazy because I’m just a person. I have a pretty face, sure, but so do a lot of people,” he argued.
“Then what is the problem now?” Tom asked. “If you already didn’t think you’re anything special, why is it such a big deal that you’re nothing special anymore?” he asked, only to cringe when he realized how it sounded the way he said it. Sure enough, Andrej gaped like Tom had hit him.
“Fuck you,” he said, tears welling up in his eyes.
“No, Andrej, no,” Tom said, groaning when Andrej stood up and stomped off towards the kitchen. “Andrej, I didn’t mean it like that!” he cried, jumping up to go after him. “You’re something special, I promise. You’re still one of the most beautiful people ever to exist,” he pressed. He sighed and leaned his head against the refrigerator at his side as he watched Andrej standing at the sing, shoulders slumped, body tense. “Andrej, I’m so sorry that sounded wrong-“
“Shut up, Tom,” he said wetly and Tom shook his head, walking over.
“No, you know you’re beautiful, Andrej. You’ve had more magazine covers than any other male model in history,” he said, and Andrej chuckled wetly.
“How do you even know that?” he asked, looking over his shoulder at Tom.
Tom grinned. “I’ve totally stalked your career online,” he admitted, then slid closer, curling his arms around Andrej loosely. “Your face is the example of beauty, Andrej. Your face is genderless beauty. You don’t have any reason to feel down about yourself just because you had a baby and your body is different.”
Andrej sighed. “Tom, in modeling, your body is what’s important. Be honest, how many supermodels have beautiful faces?” he asked.
Tom chuckled. “Alright, maybe you have a point, but hey, you said it yourself, you’re two weeks after having a baby. You can’t expect this to be how you’re gonna stay looking,” he pointed out. He kissed Andrej’s shoulder and looked at the side of his face. “Come on, even perfect has to take time off for a baby,” he said, and Andrej chuckled, turning to give Tom a warm look.
“Well, it is your fault so I guess you have to say all that,” he said, and Tom rolled his eyes.
“So it’s my fault you’re fat?” he asked, and Andrej kicked him in the shin. “Ow, sorry, sorry, my fault you think you’re fat,” he clarified, and Andrej grinned.
“Well yeah, you got me pregnant,” he said, then turned in Tom’s arms. “Although, I gotta say, thanks for that,” he said and Tom grinned.
“Doubt many people hear a ‘thank you’ for making somebody pregnant, but yeah, thanks for getting pregnant,” he said, and Andrej giggled, pecking his lips.
“I didn’t expect you do be anything more than a source of money at the start,” he told Tom. “But I’m really glad you ended up being cool about this,” he said, looking into Tom’s deep brown eyes.
Tom raised a hand to stroke his cheek. “I fell in love with you, I couldn’t be more ‘cool’ about this than that,” he said, and Andrej beamed.
“Ha, I made a really hot rock star fall for me,” he said, doing a little victory dance away from Tom’s hold to the center of the kitchen before striking a solemn pose. “My mum would be very proud,” he said, then frowned. “Speaking of mum, where did they go? They didn’t go home yet, I know that, but I haven’t seen her or Igor since yesterday morning,” he said.
Tom chuckled. “Staying at my house since I’m staying with you. Bill’s keeping them entertained. I think he and Igor have created an exclusive ‘Nadija’s Uncles’ club,” he joked and Andrej chuckled.
“I guess not would be a good time to mention my brother only likes girls, right?” he asked, and Tom snorted.
“Bill’s straight,” he insisted. “He just acts very… not the most straight,” he said, shrugging.
Andrej rolled his eyes, going to the refrigerator. “Your brother is as straight as me,” he joked and Tom laughed.
“Hey, that’s so judgmental! You do know my bodyguard is gay, right? He’s the manliest man ever in the world and he used to have a husband,” he said, and Andrej gaped, shutting the refrigerator door.
“Shut up! Hans?!” he asked and Tom nodded, hopping onto the countertop. “No way!” He hummed. “Now him being really sweet makes sense, he was hitting n me,” he said, and Tom rolled his eyes.
“He’s like forty,” he said, and Andrej waved a hand.
“So?” he asked, only to be interrupted by the buzzer.
Tom smiled. “I’ll get the food, you find a movie,” he said, then tugged on Andrej’s sweatshirt. “And seriously, change into something more comfortable,” he said, and Andrej grinned as he turned to leave.
