I know my size in dresses, since they tend to USUALLY run about the same, unlike tops and pants, which can run small or large. So those I know why they're off usually.
HOWEVER, I also know my measurements and, suppostedly, this is how the average dress measurement chart looks:
How do people order dresses online? I know my size, I'm a 16 and in dresses, that involves a little taking in at the waist (hourglass shape)... according to my measurements, however, I should be somewhere around 20/22... which would FALL OFF OF ME! I know, my costume is an 18 and we had to have it taken in so it didn't just shuffle around when I moved cause it didn't really touch my body as much as just hang there from my shoulders.
And yet people order dresses online all the time. How do they do it?
I ask this because I need a dress for our broadway revue and I can find a cheap one online but I don't know any seamstresses and I can't afford to take it to a tailor and have it taken in if it's too big.
Why do measurements say that? Are they purposefully running the measurements up in case you need it taken in? At a-line dress measurements (using natural waist, not 'where my belly button is' or 'where my pants sit', but natural waist as in the narrowest bit there below your ribs) I'm a 47-36-49. I wear size 16 dresses and if it's a nice dress, taken in at the waist. In jeans I wear a size 14 or 16 and in shirts I tend to wear mens shirts so it doesn't matter, lol, but either way, even at my fattest, I never was a size 18 or more. I hope I never AM a size 18 or more, yet EVERY measurement chart EVER puts me in a 18-22 range.
HOW do people buy FITTED clothes online?!? It's not like a teeshirt where you just get a size up and it doesn't matter if it's too big, cause it still works. These are FITTED, 'will look like shit if it ISN'T right' things, dresses! Cause if you get one size too small, you look like you're stuffed in it, you get one size too big, it looks like a shell, TRUST ME, I know! My graduation dress AND my costume for Seussical were dresses in size 18 and looked like I was wearing a shell cause it shifted around like a loose teeshirt, only it's meant to be fitted.
