Continuing with my Ville/HIM theme- More lyrical highlights (feat. vids)
I just wanted to go through and talk about some of my favorite lyrics and the songs they're from. Some are just a few words, others are discussions. The reason lyrics amaze me is because even some of the worst lyrics are better than any amount of poetic talent I have. Really, it's bad. My ballads from 12th grade were TERRIBLE and they were only POSSIBLE because I wrote them to go along with songs that already existed. And Ville's lyrics are just cheesy, sappy, and lame enough to make me love them. (vids under cuts to save space)
Oddly the first one isn't a sappy song at all
This song sounds romantic but its actually about a friend's heroin addiction. Ville said that he asked the friend once why he did it and the guy replied that it was to kill the loneliness. Hence the song. And the lyrics are pretty beautiful:
Memories, sharp as daggers
Pierce into the flesh of today
Suicide of love took away all that matters
And buried the remains in an unmarked grave in your heart
And then the chorus is really fitting for a heroin addiction:
With the venomous kiss you gave me
I'm killing loneliness (Killing loneliness)
With the warmth of your arms you saved me,
I'm killing loneliness with you
I'm killing loneliness that turned my heart into a tomb
I'm killing loneliness
'The venomous kiss' is probably the most... poetic way to word using heroin. And 'the warmth of your arms' is really fitting for how the heroin gave him a sense of safety and numbed him into a state of calm where he felt comfortable. It's... ridiculously poetic for what it is.
It's not much, but I love how this verse is worded:
I hear you weep so far from me
I taste your tears like you're next to me
And I know
My weak prayers are not enough to heal
Oh the ancient wounds so deep and so dear
The revelation is of hatred and fear
I dont really know hat to say about this song. It's just... one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It can make a grown man cry if the lyrics are followed. (In fact, in the comments there is a guy who writes "im a grown dude, and i tear every time i hear this song.." lol)

there's no cure for the pain
no shelter from the rain
all our prayers seem to fail

Now, I know that I just quoted basically... oh... the meat of the song, but still, this song is a beautiful representation of a broken heart. There's just something ridiculously beautiful and heartbreaking about this song. Most anybody can feel it if they just close their eyes and listen.
This song has a lot in it, but the one part that stands out for me is this:
The heretic seal beyond divine,
A prayer to a god who's deaf and blind,
The last rites for souls on fire,
three little words and a question: why?
It's just... fucking beautiful, lol. Idk why. The word choice in 'heretic seal beyond divine' is amazing.
This whole song is about (through my interpretation) a doomed relationship that they don't want to give up on (Something Ville definately has experience with, poor baby), and you can see hints of it everywhere, but I just love this one part as an example of that:
When doubts arise the game begins

It always ends up in tears...
And the chorus:
So keep on pretending
Our heaven is worth the waiting
Keep on pretending it's alright

Another ridiculously heartbreaking and beautiful songs. You can tell from the start that its about a broken heart and it's enough to nearly make you cry. It's a very simple song but it doesn't need more than the lyrics it has to go along with the amazing music here:

That's basically it, but his voice and the music make those lyrics into something amazing. It is a great song.
AND I'm done. There's much more to be said, but to be perfectly honest, I'm tired of it too. I seriously doubt any of you got this far, but maybe someone cares what opinions I have about lyrics. Lol.
