Bob carried Billie to her bedroom. It was late and she was drowsy from the pain killers. He lay her down and pulled the covers over her. “Goodnight, Billie.” He whispered, smiling sadly as he turned to leave.
“Bob?” Bob turned back slowly. She smiled with sheepish eyes. “Will you… will you come lay with me?” she asked, and Bob sighed.
“Billie, it’s really not appropriate-“
“Bob, fuck propriety for once, and come do what I want!” Billie snapped, and he smiled. He shook off his jacket and kicked off his boots, then walked over.
“Okay, you win.” He said, knowing that he could never really tell her no. Bob lay down beside her, keeping his distance, only to have Billie scoot closer and face him. “Billie, go to sleep.” He said, and she smiled.
“I’m still a little stoned, but Bob… you’re beautiful.” she said softy, smiling. Bob just smiled sadly and held Billie’s hand.
“You should see yourself.” He mumbled, squeezing her fingers gently. “Go to bed.” He said, and she smiled, nodding.
“Umkay! Night.” She mumbled, only instead of turning over and going to sleep, she snuggled into Bob’s arms, clinging to his shirt as she pressed her cold nose into his neck. Bob groaned at the torture that woman was putting him under. He held her, stroking her hair as she fell asleep. He let his eyes shut as he cradled the tiny body in his arms. He would keep her safe no matter what, even if it hurt him in the end.

Bill woke up with a yawn, only to cringe as a weak throb resounded through his head. He would have to take some Tylenol later. He snuggled into the warmth beside him, only to feel it breathing. He opened his eyes and groaned when he saw Blonde hair and knew where he was. He pulled back and looked up to see Bob’s sleeping face just above his. He smiled at how peaceful Bob looked. He couldn’t get over how perfect for him Bob was. He felt so safe with Bob’s strong arms around him, and he felt so loved in Bob’s embrace.
He slowly raised his hand, stroking Bob’s cheek in slow, smooth strokes. He kissed his cheek and smiled when his blonde beard prickled his lips. He was losing his battle against himself. He didn’t want to lie to Bob and hurt him, but he wanted to kiss him again more than ever. He was fighting to see a reason to not date Bob. He knew that in the end, Bob would be hurt if it came out that he was really a man, but he also knew that the chance of finding love wasn’t something he got every day. He couldn’t decide what was worse, denying himself love, or giving Bob false love. He didn’t want to be selfish, but he also didn’t see why he couldn’t give Bob what he wanted, and just claim he didn’t believe in sex before marriage now.
Bill was cut from his mind’s rambling by Bob moving. He yawned and grunted in his sleep, arms tightening around Bill. Bill whined in pain as Bob squeezed his bruised side.
Bob’s eyes flew open and he gasped as he saw the pain on Bill’s face. “Billie?” he asked, hands pulling away.
“You squeezed my ribs.” He said, gasping as he rolled onto his back and held his side.
Bob sat up. “Shit, are you okay?” he asked, pushing his hair back from his eyes.
Bill nodded, sighing. “I’ll be alright. I’ve just got a really big bruise.” He said, pulling his shirt up, hand over his ‘breasts’ as he’d made a habit of keeping covered. The bruise was huge. Bob cringed, looking at him apologetically. “I’ll be fine.” He said, and Bob nodded, still looking at the large blue bruise.
“How’s your head?” he asked, looking awkward.
Bill shrugged. “It’s sore, but I think I can take some Tylenol and I’ll be fine.” He said, yawning as he pushed his shirt back down. He smiled tiredly. “You only made it two days out there before my dumb ass made you have to come back in.” he said, chuckling. “I’m really ruining your month, huh?” he asked with a sad smile.
Bob shrugged, looking sad but resigned. “You don’t ruin anything, Billie.” He said softly, then stroked Bill’s hair behind his ear. “I’ll see you later.” He said, slipping out of the bed to his feet.
Bill bit his lip, but sat up. “Bob?” he asked, and Bob looked back. “Stay?” he asked, holding up his hand.
Bob sighed. “Billie, seriously, I don’t want to deal with this stuff. I’m not used to dealing with anything outside of ranch life. I’m not made for drama, and you are doing absolutely nothing to help it stay that way.” He said. Bill pouted, and Bob cringed. “Billie, look…I want to get over this- these feelings since they’re not returned and just… hanging out doesn’t make it easier on me.” He said, looking outside his comfort zone.
Bill pulled his knees up. “Bob…” he groaned, grabbing onto his hair. “I just… there are so many things you don’t know about me.” He said, weakly. He looked up at Bob. “Bob, you don’t know me.” He said.
Bob snorted. “Billie, I’m pretty damn sure I know you better than most anybody else here, except maybe Brendon or William.” He said, and Bill snorted. “What?” he asked.
Bill sighed. “Yeah, but they don’t even know the REAL me. Nobody here knows anything real about me.” He said.
Bob rolled his eyes. “You’re a sassy, strong woman with the most beautiful face ever, you’re smarter than people think, you’ve got the biggest smile I’ve ever seen, you can handle anything new that we throw at you and roll with it, and you actually appreciate nearly everything I love.” He said in a gruff voice. “I may not know your past, but I know you.” he said. “And I get you don’t feel the same feelings I feel for you, and that’s fine… but don’t play with me like this, Billie.” He said softly.
Bill sighed, “Bob, I just…” he looked up and shrugged. “I won’t lie, I do have feelings for you.” He said, then groaned. “But I’m pretty sure if you and I end up together, you’ll end up being hurt.” He said softly.
Bob looked hopeful and walked over. “Billie, I’ll risk it.” He said softly, sitting down beside her. “Billie, I’m in love with you, and if you’re saying I have any chance for anything, I’m willing to risk everything you claim against us.” He said seriously.
Bill bit his lip and looked up. “I’m not what you think I am.” He said softly.
Bob shook his head. “You’re who I know you are.” He said, reaching out to stroke Bill’s cheek.
Bill looked up and bit his lip again. “Okay.” He said softly, then leaned in to kiss Bob, who was too shocked to kiss back.
“Wait, so… just… like that? ‘okay’?” Bob asked, looking confused.
Bill smiled and laughed. “What? Did you expect some big dramatic scene?” he giggled. “I can do that if you want.” He said, then smiled. “Or do you expect me to like, outline my requirements?” he asked, beaming.
Bob smiled. “Shut up.” He said softly, leaning in to kiss Bill, who smiled into the kiss, raising a hand to stroke Bob’s cheek. He pulled away with a small smack and smiled.
“You should know… I am totally crazy about this beard. I’ve wanted to touch it all along.” He said smirking, sliding his fingertips over Bob’s cheek.
Bob blushed. “Stop.” He whined, looking embarrassed. “It’s very odd you like my beard.” He said.
Bill smirked. “I think it’s all manly and hot.” He said, then giggled. “Oh man, if we kiss standing up, I’ll be taller.” He said, and Bob groaned.
“Why are you so tall? No woman should be over six foot like you.” He said, then smiled as he leaned in for a small kiss. “Brendon’s eye-to-eye with your chest.” He said.
Bill smirked. “He’s not getting any view, trust me.” He said.
Bob snickered. “You’re so flat, Billie.” He teased, and Bill rolled his eyes.
“You’ve got bigger boobs.” He teased, then laid his hands on Bob’s chest muscles as he leaned in for a tiny kiss.
“Hey!” Bob whined, pushing Bill’s hands away. “I don’t go randomly grabbing your boobs!” he said, and Bill flushed.
“About that, don’t do that, okay?” he said softly, looking bashful. “I mean… generally I’ve never had a guy bring it up, but since you did, can you please not like… grope me without warning?” he asked. “I seriously still have nightmares about Eric touching me and I’m pretty sure you’d end up making me cry and then getting slapped if you randomly grab my boobs.” He said.
Bob frowned. “You think I’d actually do that?” he asked. “What part of being a southern gentleman don’t you understand about most of us guys on this ranch? I’m not going to do anything inappropriate like that at all, and especially not without warning! It would be really ridiculous of me to walk up and just… grab you!” he said.
Bill snorted. “I’m a city girl. Most guys I’ve dated went for the ass-grab by the second date.” He said, and Bob rolled his eyes.
“I love you.” He said softly, looking a bit shy. “I just… I don’t… act like that… at all.” He said. “The out of the blue love declaration in the canyon is about the boldest thing I’ve ever done in my life.” He admitted.
Bill sighed. “I wish I could say it.” He said. “I’ve never said ‘I love you’ before.” He said softly.
Bob snickered. “Hell, I’m happy with the ‘I have feelings for you’ thing.” He said, and Bill smiled at him.
“Okay, well…” Bill bit his lip. “I need to get up and get ready for work. I’m not in enough pain to keep from working and it’s not right of me to skip.” He said.
Bob nodded and rubbed Bill’s hair back from his head to place a kiss on his temple. “I’ve got to go back out, but I’ll be back in two days.” He said.
Bill smiled sadly. “At least have breakfast with me?” he asked. “I mean, the ‘let’s be together’ conversation and then not seeing each other for two days kinda sucks.” He said.
Bob nodded. “Yeah, I’ll probably be waiting on you, since you take longer getting ready.” He teased.
Bill huffed playfully. “Hey! I’m totally entitled to taking a long time! I have to get pretty!” he said, and Bob smirked.
“Do you think you have to get dressed up for me?” he asked, rolling his eyes. “Billie, you’re beautiful wearing no makeup in your pajamas.” He said, and Bill beamed.
“You’re sweet, oh my God.” He said, grinning. “However, I get dressed up to feel like myself.” He said, then slid out of bed, stretching when he stood up. His head throbbed and he cringed. “Wow, first order of the day, get a shower, get dressed, get pain killers fast.” He said. “I think I won’t bother straightening my hair today, I’ll just blow it dry and head downstairs.” He said.
Bob smiled. “All I care is that we get some time together before I head out.” He said standing up. He was the same height as Bill, which made him sigh. “It’s so not right.” He said, and Bill chuckled.
“And I’m not even wearing my shoes yet.” Bill said, but pecked Bob’s lips. “Okay, leave so I can get naked.” He said.
Bob smirked, but kissed his cheek. “Okay, I’ll wait for you.” He said, turning to leave the room. Bill just smiled, giggling as he walked to the bathroom.
He knew things weren’t resolved, but for the moment, things were amazing.
