Okay, so as a intro to my opinion, this album is AMAZING! BEST album of 2009, hands down, unless something AMAZING happens, it cannot be beat.
Now straight into it!
1)Blood On My Hands: Okay, the song starts out with a bang, which is always a MUST in a good album. The first song has to draw people in. This does that. They lyrics are dark and dirty, and ROCKS, hardcore amazing, imo. The screams of 'There's Blood' is REALLY awesome. Also, unrelated to the album, but the music video is amazing (its posted and tagged either 'bandom vids' or 'vids' over on the right there of my journal page. In conclusion, this song makes me wanna mosh. ngl.
2)Empty With You: I like the music, its that typical The Used poppy-but-not-even-pop sound that they mastered long ago. As for the lyrics, i like them, they're pretty and his singing is pretty. I'm not sure i really get the song, but i like it pretty much.
3)Born To Quit: I LOVE THIS SONG! Okay, its got a really good sound, the lyrics are AMAZING, its SO fun to sing, and GAH this song is AWESOME! I love it. One of the best on the album!
4)Kissing You Goodbye: Beautiful. That's a perfect definition of this whole song, beautiful. The piano is beautiful, Bert's voice is amazing, just.. GUH its beautiful. The lyrics are awesome, and the GUITAR!!! OMG its amazing. I'm in love with Quinn on this song, tbh... or actually all of them. This is probably the 2nd best song on the WHOLE album, honestyl.
5)Sold My Soul: I like this song. The lyrics are pretty powerfurl. The music is really great and really hard, and then the little slow, beautiful outro is just beautiful.
6)Watered Down: This is one of the poppier songs. It's still really good, but it's less hardcore than the other songs on the album. It's not one of my favorite, but it's very catchy and had some clever lyrics. It's really good, but not as good as some of the other songs.
7)On The Cross: Okay, i really like this song. I may be reading it the wrong way from what i hear, but first let me say, the music is really good. Now, this song has a meaning i can really see. TBH, its sounds like its saying 'i dont believe in God, but if you want to, thats fine... and if he's real, see if you can get him to help us out!' which is how i think most people SHOULD feel. I'm a christian and i believe in God, but it doesn't bother me that others dont. I mean, i wish they could be convinced, but your religion is your religion. And i think people who dont believe what i do should just go 'hey, thats okay, you do whatever you think is best' because i REALLY hate when ppl go 'there's no God, and you're an idiot for thinking there is! you're such a fucking stupid weak person for thinking you need God.' ... cause thats just mean. Like the lyric in this song says "Having faith in something you can't see Takes something else" and to see someone with so much conviction for something nobody KNOW is real takes guts. PERSONALLY, i think its arrogant to think there IS nothing else out there. Even if there isn't God as we christians see it, there has to be SOME higher power at work, because shit doesn't just happen. Things didn't just appear without someone or something starting it all, and there are too many eerie and unexplained things to say 'shit just happens. Now moving on, this isn't the place for this rant, but the song is great. That's what i'm saying about the song.
8)Come Undone: The obligatory 'HATE' song that all The Used albums have. It's a good bit violent and very harsh musically. It's pretty good, but not one of the best songs on the album. I LOVE IT dont get me wrong, but its not THAT special.
9)Meant To Die: LOVE the intro rift! LOVE these lyrics. They're really creative. The Tempo change is really cool and the screams are really amazing. Another REALLY catchy song. Definately a great song to sing along to. I really REALLY love this one. It's top five of the album for sure.
10)The Best Of Me:The slow build up is great, but then the hard/fast/loud intro breaks in and it makes you want to jump around, then it slows down again. Thats really interesting to me. It's very clever. Then at the chorus it explodes into screams and is AMAZING. I love the lyrics and i love how he sings some of them like...stressing syllables in certain places. This song is technically really good. Musically, its very precise and neat. I love how dirty the vocals are (figuratively) and how clean the music is. Then you have that little 'feedback' guitar in the center there? It's really great! Then it finishes out with a great climax! great song.
11)Men Are All The Same: BEST SONG OF THE ALBUM HANDS DOWN! I LOVE this song, and i'll tell you why! The crows at the beginning is just cool to me. The music starting out is loud and harsh, but in an amazing way. It's got an eerie vibe to it sort of. The beat is SICK! It's amazing! The lyrics are FUCKING AWESOME. Then once you get to the interlude with the hissing/whispering and the clapping and murmurs... then you come back in time for it to mix "Kissing You Goodbye"s chorus and this song's chorus together with some sick screams behind it while the music builds slowly, then it slowly starts fading to static over like... 20 seconds before it goes full static the come back full force with SICK screams... this starts out as a good song with a great beat then ends it with something that BLOWS YOUR MIND!!!
Then,a non-album song i have (idk if there are more):
In A Needle: This is a nice little poppy song, its pretty good, but i'm glad it wasn't on the album. It doesn't really fit in, imo.
So, as an album, i call it bet album of 2009 (barring a miracle in the last few months of the year) and a rating out of ten?
9.9999999999999/10
