Character: Kairi
Series: Kingdom Hearts
Version: Post Kingdom Hearts II. ( Pretty much right after the game, but before they get the letter from King Mickey. )
Age: 15
Gender: Female

Appearance: In the past year, Kairi has grown and matured into a rather pretty young woman. She is average height for her age, standing around 5'3" or 4". Her and Sora are about the same height, but she is shorter. She has a bit more meat on her bones than she did when she was 14, but not by much. The girl is still very slender - or thin, if you look closely - with skinny arms and legs. Her feet, at least, aren't comically huge in proportion to her body anymore.

Even though she lives on an island and goes outside often, her skin is fair and unblemished. Her face can be described as a mix between oval-shaped and heart-shaped, with a narrow chin and angular jaw. Kairi has shoulder-length dark crimson hair, shorter in the front and longer in the back, framing her face in gentle stair-steps. If one stands facing her they will note that the majority of her bangs are parted to her right, but appear to be on the viewer's left. A cluster of bangs hang down to her chin on the viewer's right, and the rest on the left go in this order: the largest bangs falling across the bridge of her nose, cut into two points; a shorter bang, and longer one in front of her ear.

Her eye colour is a vibrant blue tinged with violet. She doesn't wear much makeup at all, preferring to let her natural beauty shine through.

When she slips, Kairi is wearing a short and stylish pink dress that ends slightly above mid-thigh, unzipped until below her breasts to show a white camisole with a lightly scalloped, straight neckline and straps that go around her neck. Coming off of the straps is a dark grey hood that you can only see from the back, below her hair. The main center zipper is also unzipped about two inches above where the dress ends. There are also two more zippers on her clothes for no real purpose, just added effect: one about three inches away from the center zipper on the left, and one in the same place on the opposite side. Around her waist is a black belt with parts of it hanging off on either side in loops. On her left side is a square bag/pouch of the same colour, slightly longer than her dress' length, where she carries various small items of importance, such as the thalassa charm Sora gave back to her. A lavender ribbon is tied to it. The girl's shoes are also lavender, the style somewhat similar to ankle-high Converse, with black laces that wrap and tie around her legs above her ankles. She wears a black-string necklace with a small oval-shaped pearl-like pendant that goes down right above the cami, though sometimes covered by it completely. She also wears three simple bracelets on her left wrist: the first white, the second grey, the third blue.

Personality: Kairi is a very kind-hearted and usually understanding and empathetic person. She is a Princess of Heart and therefore does not have any darkness lingering within her heart. However, that does not mean she's all sugary bunnies and sunshine dust. She isn't extremely girly as her looks might suggest at times, but can be rather tomboyish and mature about things. However, she still has a lot of childish aspects to her, and sometimes her daydreams and imagination gets away with her. She loves adventures and exploring new things. She is loyal to her friends but a bit headstrong. She thinks she can do things she really isn't capable of. This tends to get her into difficult situations. She's rather stubborn, but she does it because of her strong will and determination. The princess is optimistic and caring, always paying mind to her friends and healing them if they're hurting. She can get panicked or depressed if something bad happens, however.

Promises mean a lot to Kairi. She won't break one, and expects the person she's made a promise with never to break it, either.

Fears: Kairi's friends are very dear to her. She, Riku, and Sora have a very strong bond between them, and she doesn't ever want to lose that. She fears losing them again, either to the darkness or war. Next time - if there is a next time - she'll fight beside them, too. She fears being alone in the sense that when Sora and Riku left her on Destiny Islands, she went out to find them and got herself into trouble. She loves her friends, and without them, or any contact with people she likes would be a very lonely life. A year ago, she asked for Sora to never change. She dreads her friends changing immensely and for the worse, because then they won't be them anymore. She is afraid of losing her heart for the second time, because she doesn't know if she'll be able to get it back this time. It also wasn't very fun, being a lifeless doll for a few months.

Weaknesses: Although she has a strong will, Kairi isn't physically strong or much of a fighter. This weakness has led her to be easily captured before, and for most of her life she has depended on Sora and Riku to come to her aid. In fact, she's been viewed as quite the Damsel in Distress. She plans to work on all that, however.

Her best friends, Sora and Riku, are her major weakness. She cares about them deeply, and although she understands when they're out saving the worlds and fighting monsters, they're going to get hurt. But that doesn't mean she always likes it.

It's also difficult for her to stay mad at someone for a long period of time. She has no evil within her heart - depending on the situation, that could indeed be a weakness.

She's also not that amazing at drawing, but at least she's better than Sora.

Strengths/Abilities: Kairi obtained a keyblade from Riku in The World That Never Was. It's a light golden colour with yellow, pink, purple and white flowers ( daisies and tulips ) for the teeth. A lighter toned ribbon wraps around its stalk, and the base is in the shape of a delicate heart, one side blue with an ornamental wave sprouting from it. The keychain at the end is a paopu, hanging from a red chain. She's only used it to swipe at a few Heartless, and therefore doesn't really know how to use it. She hopes that one day either Sora or Riku will be able to teach her how to use it properly so that she can defend herself.

Kairi isn't a Princess of Heart without a reason. Her heart is exceptionally strong and was able to seek shelter within Sora's own heart after she was attacked by the Heartless on Destiny Islands. It was strong enough to create her Nobody, Naminé. Naminé can come back to Kairi if she allows it, which would complete both of them. This strong heart causes her determination. Also, because she is a Princess of Heart, she has ties to the Keys and Keyholes of the worlds that are being attacked by the darkness. When joined with the six other Princesses of Heart, her power can open the final Keyhole to Kingdom Hearts. She may have some small magical inclination, because she was able to return Sora to his human form after being turned into a Heartless. She also has no darkness lingering within her heart.

She is friendly to those who are nice to her, but wary of those who are not. Therefore, she can usually make friends and feel at home very easily amongst other people. Kairi is very loyal to her friends and was able to disregard Riku's physical change after he submitted to the darkness and was determined to remember Sora's name and her memories of him. She also set to seek them out, highlighting her loyalty. She wouldn't betray Sora or Riku on purpose, as seen when Axel and Saïx kidnapped her.

Kairi is nurturing. She takes care of her friends and puts them in their place, almost like a mother does to her children. She's good at baking and crafts, and likes to make charms, necklaces, and bracelets.

History: Kairi was born in Radiant Garden, a pleasant place ruled by an important scientist called Ansem the Wise. Although she has no memories of her parents whatsoever, she did have a grandmother who used to tell her stories in the castle at Radiant Garden, where Ansem resided. However, she only lived there for five years - before the darkness swallowed the world.

Ansem the Wise and his five apprentices became interested in the darkness within people's hearts, stimulated by the arrival of a man who lost his memories, Xehanort. Ansem took him in as an apprentice. Curious about this man, he experimented on him to try to unlock those memories and conducted research on the heart. He found out that the heart's darkness could become a terrible, controlling, and even human-like thing, however, and it eventually took over and destroyed their world. The darkness in the heart created creatures called Heartless, shadows that stole people's hearts. There were only a handful of survivors who fled via Gummi Ship, a world-travelling device ( there were many worlds, Ansem learned - and by opening the darkness in one's heart and setting it free to roam, he also opened the Keyholes to these other worlds ). Amongst them were Ansem, Cid, Yuffie, Leon, and Aerith. Ansem's apprentices - Ienzo, Braig, Elaus, Even, Dilan, and Xehanort - were consumed by darkness and formed Nobodies that would later make up the Organization XIII.

Kairi survived too, of course. She did not board the Gummi Ship, however. Instead, she arrived at the shore of Destiny Islands, another world, on the night of a meteor shower to be found by a native, Sora. The five-year old girl had lost all her memories of Radiant Garden and the people in it and knew nothing but her own name.

The girl was adopted by the mayor of Destiny Islands. She quickly befriended Sora, a silly brunette boy, and his best friend Riku, a mature silver-haired boy who was a year old than them. They played on the small archipelago in Destiny Islands, eventually building several wooden structures and shacks to play on. Later they made other friends on the island: Wakka, Selphie, and Tidus. Selphie became one of her close girlfriends, but she still preferred Riku and Sora more.

Not long after Kairi arrived on Destiny Islands did Sora and Riku discover a small cave on one of their play islands. It later became the trio's sacred spot, which they called "The Secret Place." When Kairi and Sora were still small, they drew each other's heads on the rocks, smiling.

Nine years later, Kairi still judged their races and play sword-fights with wooden swords and hung out with Sora and Riku regularly. By then Kairi and Sora were fourteen, and Riku fifteen. Riku and Sora competed often for Kairi's attention, but she was used to it and even encouraged them at times. One instance was when Riku raced Sora over who got to name the raft, but Riku turned it into something else - he said that whoever won got to share the paopu with Kairi. The paopu is a yellow star-shaped fruit, and legend has it, if shared with the person you care about most, your destinies will become intertwined. Sora was baffled at this proposal and Riku said that if Sora didn't, he would. Of course, he never got the chance.

Riku proposed they built a raft and sail off to explore other worlds, because he was convinced they were out there and that Kairi had come from one of them. The other two agreed and they began constructing one. When Sora was supposed to be gathering materials, Kairi found him sleeping by the water and woke him up. He told her he had had a strange dream - what they both didn't know was that he had become the chosen Keyblade Master.

One day at sunset Kairi suggested that they should leave, just her and Sora. She also said that Riku had changed and asked for Sora to never change. Sora was a bit taken aback and confused. Later that night the Heartless attacked. Sora had met a strange robed man earlier in the Secret Place saying that their world had been "connected," so he somehow had let in the Heartless. The shadows took over. Riku was consumed by darkness and disappeared. Sora found Kairi in the Secret Place, her heart taken by the Heartless. She was able to lethargically say his name, and then drifted through him. She disappeared.

Kairi was later found by Riku or Maleficent, after Sora had gone around the different worlds trying to find her and fighting the Heartless. Her body was found, anyway - she was still alive but in a comatose state without her heart. Riku had her on Captain Hook's ship in Neverland, and had given into the darkness and could now control the Heartless, all with the intent to find her heart and give it back to her. He taunted Sora about not being able to find her, and Kairi was soon transported to Hollow Bastion. Hollow Bastion is actually the world where Kairi was born, but now that Maleficent ruled, they had renamed it.

Sora eventually followed Riku to Hollow Bastion and found out that Riku was no longer on his side. Riku gave into the darkness completely and was consumed by Ansem, Xehanort's Heartless. He knew that Kairi was a Princess of Heart, one who could open the Keyhole to Kingdom Hearts along with the other princesses that Maleficent had captured, and waited for Sora to come. Sora tried to wake up Kairi, whose body was lying on the floor in front of the Keyhole. He told Sora that Kairi's heart has been inside of his own heart all along. Sora was confused ( again ) and questioned this, but felt the tug of Kairi's heart and realized it was true. After he defeated Ansem ( at least in Riku's body ), Sora took the keyblade Ansem had been using that could unlock people's hearts and stabbed himself with it, releasing Kairi's heart. However, this stole Sora's heart in turn.

Kairi awakened to see the blurry image of Sora disappearing. She ran to him and finds out that he was gone. She cried out in despair, saying, "I won't let him go!" Then Riku appeared in a spectral form before Ansem, who had regained his original Heartless body, and told Kairi, Donald and Goofy ( Sora's companions ) to run - that the Heartless were coming.

Kairi didn't want to leave without Sora. In the main entrance, a Shadow Heartless followed them. She recognized it as Sora and hugged him. Sora regained his heart and original form. She was sent to Traverse Town with Sora and stayed there with Aerith, Leon, Yuffie and Cid, who now lived there while Sora went and to defeat Ansem. Before he left, however, Kairi told him she wanted to go with him. He said that she has to stay there, and she gave him a good luck charm she made - a smiling paopu made out of thalassa shells - and told him to promise to give it back to her. They also discussed about how they were connected and that Kairi would always be with him wherever he went.

Somehow, after Sora finally defeated Ansem and closed the door to Kingdom Hearts with Riku and King Mickey's help ( Riku and Mickey were trapped on the other side, however ), Kairi appeared. Sora ran to her and they tried to grab hold of each other's hand. However, the ground beneath them broke into two. Kairi went one way, Sora went the other.

Sora: "Remember what you said, Kairi? I'm always with you, too. I'll come back to you. I promise!"

Kairi: "I know you will!"

Cue the dramatic music which made the mun burst into tears.

( Yes, this is where the mun stops caring about this already ridiculously long history. It happens. )

Kairi then returned to the newly restored Destiny Islands and plants magically began to grow back. Sparkles included. She walked into the Secret Place and noticed that Sora had drawn a paopu his head was giving to her head ( with a hand included ). Touched, a tear rolled down her cheek and she drew herself giving a paopu to him.

( And this is where she switches to present tense because past tense has been bothering her. )

A year passes. Kairi turns fifteen. She grows into a pretty young woman, sleek and slender. However, she cannot remember the spiky-haired brunette boy that used to play with her and Riku on the islands. This is because while she was on Destiny Islands, Sora was off at Castle Oblivion, the sub-headquarters of Organization XIII, a league of Nobodies after their lost hearts. Sora, with his keyblade, could get their hearts back. Naminé, Kairi's Nobody that was created when she lost her heart, had to put Sora into a long sleep so that she could piece his memories back together, which he had to lose during his stay in the Castle. Organization's orders. He, Axel and Riku destroy every Nobody there but Axel himself, who escapes.

She begins to remember Sora after Roxas, Sora's Nobody, speaks to her while she was passed out. She remembers his name and little things about him, and sends him a letter in a bottle, hoping he would reach it one day and come back to her like he promised.

Later, Sora wakes up because Roxas joins with Sora again and everyone that knew him, including Kairi, suddenly remembers him again. Kairi is kidnapped by Axel, who wants her as bait for Sora. Axel needed Sora because he wanted his friend, Roxas back. She escapes ( for a while ), however, because RIKU SAVES HER~~~ HE OPENS A PORTAL SHE CAN ESCAPE INTO~~ Um, yeah. She finds herself in Twilight Town and befriends the kids there - Olette, Hayner, Pence - who were actually Roxas' old friends. They know Sora, and she talks to them about him. Axel finds her and takes her away, but then apparently loses her. She is now at Saïx's mercy, so he can get Sora instead. Naminé frees her from the caged cell he puts her in and they run around The Castle That Never Was until Saïx comes back and stops them. A hooded figure in an Organization coat chases him away, however, and Naminé tells her it's Riku. Kairi lifts his hood to reveal that Riku has turned ugly! He now looks like Ansem, or Xehanort's Heartless. But that doesn't matter; he's still cool.

Riku and Kairi go to help Sora. Riku gives her a floral keyblade to fight with, but she doesn't do much fighting. They see Sora and he finally figures out that the Ansem guy is Riku and there is much happy joy joy of the trio getting back together ( and tears, on Sora's part ). Then they go to defeat Xemnas together, the evil Nobody Organization XIII overlord! Who is actually Xehanort's Nobody! Who knew?

Kairi gets to leave before Xemnas is defeated, however. After Riku gets his normal body back because Ansem the Wise 'splodes Kingdom Hearts, or at least the hearts Organization XIII has collected, a portal is opened for Kairi and them to go back to Destiny Islands. She combines with Naminé and goes home. But Riku and Sora get stuck! They defeat Xemnas, finally, and with much slashing hints, fall from the sky into Destiny Island's ocean! Kairi greets them on shore, Sora gives the paopu charm back to her, and all is well.

"You're home."

The beach. The sun, the salty ocean breeze, and the water lapping at her ankles. It was all too perfect, being here with Sora and Riku again. She laughed with them, tinkling chimes, splashing water at her friends. Home. They were here again - here to stay. Hopefully.

But then, a particularly large wave swept past her feet, and she slipped. But instead of landing in the shallow water, she found herself in a house.

What world was this? And where were her friends that she could finally spend time with?

Sample RP post: For a while, she thought she was still at the beach.

"Riku! Come on and stop moping. Come swim with us!"

The silver-haired teen's blank expression seemed to waver like a television screen in a storm. The brief image of a frown twitched onto his lips. "I don't want to get wet."

"You won't stay dry for long once I'm through with you!" The brunette teased, flopping clown-like through the gently crashing waves.

"Come on, Riku. It's fun. Haven't you missed . . . ?"

Riku moved his icy blue eyes in her direction. The redhead looked over her shoulder, wisps of hair blowing in her face to look into those eyes. 'His eyes couldn't lie.' King Mickey was right. More than anything, she knew, Riku just wanted to be normal again. He wanted to forget being consumed by the darkness completely. But she knew that a little part of the thought would always remain. Memories like that always did.

Despite her worry, she smiled as sweetly as she could. Her motto? Keep on smiling, and it'll cheer even the darkest of people up. She was their light. She had learned that.

There was a splashing noise and a muffled curse, followed by laughter.

"You little-"

Riku, his shining hair now dripping, tackled Sora and wrapped his muscular arm around the boy's neck in a headlock. Sora 'arggh'ed good-naturedly.

Kairi couldn't help but giggle with delight. She could tell that Riku was being careful with him. He still felt guilty. That was all right; he would learn. She'd help him. She'd help both of them through it.

It wasn't easy, adjusting.

She heard the rolling of the wave before she felt it. The breeze tousled her crimson locks once more, spattering her cheek with salt and water. Water began to seep into her already soaked shoes.

This wave . . . it's strong. It's like-

A dream?

Liquid pressure knocked against her legs. They tangled up beneath her, and she slipped. And fell.

Her blue eyes were alight with pleasant shock as they met with Sora and Riku's struggling, playing forms. Having lived on Destiny Islands since she was five, she was used to waves knocking her down all the time. She was just surprised it was so powerful.

Like a sand castle crumbling to the ground beneath the waves . . .

◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

She blinked. The landing had been rather, well, hard. Kairi had been playing in shallow water, true, but-

. . Wait. Where were her friends?

The fifteen year-old let out a small groan, propping herself up slowly with an elbow and rubbing her head where she had hit it. It wasn't wet sand she felt beneath her. Stone. Marble, in fact. Cold, hard, relentless marble - like bone. She looked up, blinking and squinting her eyes to try and adjust to the dimness of the room she now found herself in.

. . Was there a portal? Did I fall into one?

But . . . there were no more portals. The Organization XIII was gone. All of them. And Riku could no longer summon them.

Maybe Roxas, or Naminé, did this.

'Naminé?'

She called out to her Nobody softly in her mind but gained no response. She hadn't been expecting one. Ever since she combined with her blonde-haired Nobody, she hadn't been able to speak to her. Maybe she wasn't supposed to. She was . . . whole again, after all.

Now, to figure out what world this was. Sora or Riku would be here soon, so she'd just have to wait around for a bit.

Standing up might have been a good idea, but she didn't think of it, yet, still a bit dazed and confused.
