As of today, she is able to walk around and talk. She’s always smiling, and boy is it a gorgeous smile. “Jenny,” you say to her, bending down on one knee. You’re about to take her to the playground while Brendon goes shopping.
“What daddy?” she says back.
“You know I love you, right?”
She smiles that smile you love. “I love you, too.” She walks over to you and wraps her arms around your neck and kisses you on the cheek. She doesn’t know many words yet, but you’re teaching her a new one everyday. It’s amazing at how smart she is; how fast of a learner she is.
“Can we go play now, daddy?”
“Sure, baby. Let’s tell daddy bye, okay?”
“‘Kay.”
“Brendon! We’re going now!”
“Alright, Ry! Bye Jenny, I love you!” he calls out from the bathroom shower.
“Love you too!” she yells back, just as loud. You hold your hand out for her and she puts her tiny hand in yours. You hold it tightly while walking to the front door and to the park. The second she saw the playground, her tiny hand slipped out of yours and she took off running to the swings. “Push me, daddy!” she squealed.
You laugh a little, walking over to her and gently pushing her. With each push she went up higher and higher into the sky; away from your hands. Finally you stopped giving her an extra pushing, letting the swing go back and forth before eventually slowing down. Once it’s stopped completely, she jumps off and runs for the slide. Her little legs struggle to climb the steps, but she manages. “Daddy, watch!” she calls as she slides down the slides that twists and turns in every direction.
You catch her when she slides off the slide; she jumped into your arms, honestly. You hugged her tightly to your chest and she wraps her little arms around your neck. “I wanna go on the monkey bars, daddy.”
“Baby you’re too small for those. You’ll get hurt.”
“Nu-uh!” she cries. “Not if you help me!” She pouts the same pout Brendon does, knowing you can’t say “no” to it.
“Oh, fine,” you say finally, walking over to the monkey bars. You hold her by the waist so she can wrap her tiny arms around the bars, and guide her from one side to the other.
“See daddy, I didn’t get hurt.”
“That’s right baby, you didn’t.”
“I’m sleepy, daddy.”
“Would you like to go home?”
“Mhm,” she says, laying her head on your shoulder, her face in the crook of your neck. You don’t think you two have been there very long, but when you look at the time on your cell phone you realize it’s been two hours since you left the house. She quickly falls asleep, her slight snoring make you laugh.
When you walk through the door of the apartment, Brendon is sitting on the couch with Gabe and William watching TV. “I’m gonna put her to bed; I’ll be right back.” Brendon nods, turning his attention back to Gabe.
She doesn’t wake up when you lay her down in her crib. In a year or two, she’ll be sleeping a bed. Hell, most of the time she sleeps with you and Brendon. You kiss her forehead. “Goodnight, Jenny,” you whisper as you back out of the room.
