Could Be Worse
He should have known something was up the moment the two girls entered the den. Elena cleared her throat first to draw his attention from the papers he was looking over. He chose to ignore her and continued to sift through them. It wasn’t until Bonnie perched herself on the deck beside him, crossing her legs and tapping his arm lightly that he payed them any really thought. Shaking his head, Damon gave the girls his most charming smiles.
“What can I do for the two little princesses?”
Elena rolled her eyes as Bonnie dug her nails into his skin, “Don’t give us that condescending tone Damon.” Bonnie warned, a playful smirk on her lips.
“Please hold off on the foreplay until after I leave,” Elena teased.
Damon chuckled, “So are either of you going to tell me what this sudden visit is about?” Eyes drifting to an amused looking Elijah, who’d just slipped in behind Elena.
“I want a normal day,” Elena answered, eyes dead set on the elder Salvatore brother. “Just one day where everything is normal. No vampire issues, no witches, no werewolves, no magic, nothing supernatural.”
The vampire’s brow rose, “you do realize the two of you are dating two vampires right?” he motioned between himself and Elijah, the original vampire having yet to say a word. Damon flinched as Bonnie dug the toe of her shoe into his side.
The young witch smiled, leaning forward and pressing her lips to his cheek, “we were thinking a trip to New York.”
“All of us?” Damon asked, he barely liked it when Bonnie dragged him out to shop and doubted he’d like heading out to do the same exact thing in a different state.
Bonnie smiled, confirming his fears, “all of us.”
Pinching the bridge of his nose, Damon turned to Elijah as his last resort. “Please tell me that you agree with me and tell them no.”
The Original shrugged lightly, “I had told them otherwise, however…” Elijah trailed off, turning his gaze toward Elena. The brunette, in return, smiled at the attention.
Damon sighed heavily, leaning back in the chair, eyes turned skyward, “Whatever traitor,” he mumbled a light, “you’re more pussy whipped than Stefan” before finally agreeing. He ignored the urge to rub his temples as the young women squealed and chattered of the many possibilities.

“Of course we’d end up with the only boyfriends who don’t know how to change a tire,” Bonnie teased, causing Elena to giggle in response, “and their vampires to boot.”
Elijah leaned against the hood of the car besides Elena, glancing at the witch, “If Salvatore had replaced the spare tire we’d have already arrived in New York.”
“Hey!” Damon glared, “don’t push this on me. If your girlfriend hadn’t made us all agree to that stupid no supernatural bullshit everything would be fine.”
The girls sighed as the two men stood straighter, eyes narrowed at each other. Elena quickly gripped Elijah’s hand.
“Guys calm down. It’s not that bad,” she ran her thumb to ease the vampires’ tension.
“Elena’s right. The two of you won’t be making the situation any better if you argue. Besides if we have to play mediator to the two of you, neither of us will be having fun either.”
Damon scoffed, leaning against the hood beside Bonnie and mumbled, “Whatever, I didn’t want to go on this stupid trip to begin with.” He could feel his little witch rolling her eyes behind him.
“Oh Damon, don’t be such a baby,” Elena stated, playful reaching over and shoving his shoulder. “Things could be a lot worse. We should take this time and enjoy it, especially considering that we’re spending this time with our best friends. What more could we ask for?”
“Not having a flat tire?” Damon flinched as Bonnie slapped the back of his head, “It was a joke! A joke, you know as in ha ha? Geez learn to relax woman.”
Bonnie rolled her eyes, “You could learn a thing or two from Elijah you know.”
He scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest. He wouldn’t openly admit it to the girls, but they were right. Things could be a lot worse. They could still be dealing with Klaus and his evil vampire hunting vampire of a dad. Or worse Katherine’s insistent annoying self. Sparing a glance toward the other pair, Damon smiled slightly. Unsure of their union in the beginning, he couldn’t deny how, kind of, perfect Elijah and Elena were for each other. A person would have to be blind to not see how much the Original cared for the woman. For once, Elena seemed genuinely happy. And as Bonnie gently ran her fingers through his hair, eyes fluttering shut, Damon felt as though all was right in the world.
End.
